Scottish Culture & Traditions Association are hosting traditional music workshops in Accordion and Whistle this Saturday 6 June, at Torry St Fitticks Parish Church.

Accordion (age 14+)

Level 0/1 (am); Level 2/3 (pm) with Graham Geddes

Graham has been playing the accordion for over 30 years and formed his own Scottish dance band in 1976. The band have become well known, playing regularly on Grampian TV and Radio Scotland, and have visited Cairo, Dubai, Bogota and Norway and Bangkok.

New for 2009, Graham has been involved in the design of a new accordion. The Manfrini Esperto will be launched in the UK this year. The new accordion is being hand assembled in Camerano, Italy by Robert Rolston and will feature at the SC&T workshop.

The morning workshop is aimed at beginning & intermediate players. An advanced workshop will be held in the afternoon for players with more experience.

Shetland tunes for whistle (age 14+)

with Kenny Hadden

Kenny Hadden began playing the whistle in the early 1970s. His 2 main influences have been the whistle players of Ireland, and the repertoire of the Highland bagpipes. He is well known for playing in folk clubs, festivals and particularly in sessions throughout Scotland.

Many old Shetland fiddle tunes are very well suited to whistle and flute. This workshop will teach a selection of these common session tunes and perhaps one or two more obscure tunes too!

Any suggestions or requests for tunes to learn are welcome - contact Kenny in advance via the SC&T

office. Sheet music and recording of tunes will be available to all participants. A whistle in the key of "D" will be required for this workshop.
