Thanks for this v useful thread - just phoned HDNL thanks to this (their number was proving impossible to find) and can now pick up my parcel which they'd classed as non priority and due for delivery 29th (the reason it's been sitting in their depot for two days). Homecoming Workshops & Evening Concert 19 September (Saturday) SC&T and musicians from the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music are bringing you three fabulous workshop opportunities plus a chance to see these upcoming talented young musicians and singers in concert! Three groupwork workshops catering for all ability levels. Build performance skills and confidence and increase your repertoire of traditional tunes. The workshop will be led by senior students and tutors from the school. Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced Workshops (10am - 4pm): 40.00 / 35.00 Friend of SC&T Evening Concert, Saturday 19 September We are delighted to be hosting an evening performance in the Sanctuary, Queens Cross Church, Aberdeen at 7.00pm.   3. There are still a few spaces left in these workshops. If you know any accordion players especially who may be interested, please pass it on! Scottish Culture & Traditions Association are hosting traditional music workshops in Accordion and Whistle this Saturday 6 June, at Torry St Fitticks Parish Church. Accordion (age 14+) Level 0/1 (am); Level 2/3 (pm) with Graham Geddes Graham has been playing the accordion for over 30 years and formed his own Scottish dance band in 1976. The band have become well known, playing regularly on Grampian TV and Radio Scotland, and have visited Cairo, Dubai, Bogota and Norway and Bangkok. New for 2009, Graham has been involved in the design of a new accordion. The Manfrini Esperto will be launched in the UK this year. The new accordion is being hand assembled in Camerano, Italy by Robert Rolston and will feature at the SC&T workshop. The morning workshop is aimed at beginning & intermediate players.An advanced workshop will be held in the afternoon for players with more experience. Shetland tunes for whistle (age 14+) with Kenny Hadden Kenny Hadden began playing the whistle in the early 1970s. His 2 main influences have been the whistle players of Ireland, and the repertoire of the Highland bagpipes. He is well known for playing in folk clubs, festivals and particularly in sessions throughout Scotland. Many old Shetland fiddle tunes are very well suited to whistle and flute.This workshop will teach a selection of these common session tunes and perhaps one or two more obscure tunes too! Any suggestions or requests for tunes to learn are welcome - contact Kenny in advance via the SC&T office. Sheet music and recording of tunes will be available to all participants.   4. Clarsach Workshop with Catriona McKay We are thrilled to announce we have secured the services of Catriona McKay for our clarsach workshop once again! The workshop will take place on 28 February and 1 March 2009 - there are limited places left on both days. North East Fiddle Workshop with Paul Anderson Saturday 7th March 2009 For intermediate/advanced fiddle players, looking at the techniques and effects which are essential when playing tunes in the traditional fiddle styles of Scotland and the North East, particularly strathspeys. Scottish Culture & Traditions Association North East Fiddle workshop with Paul Anderson Saturday 7th March This workshop for intermediate/advanced fiddle players will look at the techniques and effects which are essential when playing tunes in the traditional fiddle styles of Scotland and the North East, particularly strathspeys. Points covered will include bowing, phrasing, ornamentation, tempo and character. Paul Anderson is already considered something of a legend in the time honoured tradition of Scottish fiddle music. A regular on Scottish television and radio, Paul has toured extensively and has recorded seven solo albums. Paul has tutored for us in the past and his classes are invariably fully booked - sign up early to avoid disappointment. The workshop is a great opportunity to learn something different in a small group environment. There's also a performance/session opportunity at the end of the day in the pub over the road for tutors and participants. Workshops are held @ Queen's Cross Church, Aberdeen. World Fiddle This week sees SC&T's own Laura Lockyer take the World Fiddle workshop - teaching some pretty amazing tunes she has picked up on her travels (including American, Shetland, Scandinavian and Canadian tunes). 40 / 35 Friend of SC&T Flatpicking Guitar Previous SC&T tutor, John Carnie, leads this week's guitar workshop - playing traditional tunes in the flatpicking style. John has just released a flatpicking guitar cd which is enjoying considerable radio play and good reviews: "The cd is a box of delights... very fine playing" BBC Radio Scotland 40 / 35 Friend of SC&T Banjo / Mandolin Tim Jones (previous SC&T tutor) and Kevin MacLeod (The Occasionals) lead a workshop which will concentrate on conveying a sense of enthusiasm and enjoyment in playing, bringing out features in playing style that capture the spirit of the tune. Style as opposed to speed! Tim is a member of local ceilidh band Jingbang, Kevin has played with The Occasionals since 1986, is a master of mandolin, bouzouki, tenor guitar & banjo, and has recorded acclaimed albums with the likes of Kris Drever and Shooglenifty. 45 / 40 Friend of SC&T Workshops are held at Queen's Cross Church, Aberdeen. The Jani Lang Band deliver seriously well-played music with only the occasional trace of creeping Celtic..."

Scottish Culture & Traditions have a lively series of workshops planned for 2008-2009, kicking off in November with two Saturdays of fiddle, guitar, flute, banjo and mandolin, led by some of the leading exponents of folk music from Scotland and beyond. Workshop Series No 1: Saturday 8th November Balkan Fiddle with Jani Lang Fingerstyle Guitar with Martin MacDonald Flute with Kenny Hadden Workshop Series No 2: Saturday 15th November Banjo/Mandolin with Tim Jones & Kevin MacLeod Flatpicking Guitar with John Carnie World Fiddle with Laura Lockyer Workshops will be held at Queen's Cross Church (NOT The Music Club as previously advertised) with the after workshop session at nearby Dizzy's Bar and Restaurant.
