Hi, does anyone on here know of anybody locally who would be able to lacquer over a signature on a guitar so as it would not be rubbed off whilst playing? I played a bass I got autographed a while ago the other day and really want to be able to play it without the risk of rubbing off the signature.

Kieran, you have to rub down something before you refinish it,or the varnish/laquer will peel off.Try clear sticky backed plastic like they use on blue peter[lol].

I know (rod? is that you?). With this you are meant to scratch right up to the signature with a knife to roughen up the surface then lacquer it, sand back etc etc. I just would like someone with experience doing it. I've been tempted by sticky back plastic, but that will look shit.
No you would have to use a 3M scotchbrite pad or fine grade wet or dry first which will totally ruin the signature. If you are really careful sticky plastic would be ok as long as there are no bubbles, there a couple of methods to avoid this.[i did a re-finishers apprenticeship when i left school]
