Music Workshops @ Queen's Cross Church

Do something different this weekend

There are still spaces left for the Series No. 2 workshops on Saturday 15th November. The workshops are a great opportunity to learn something different in a small group environment. There's also a performance/session opportunity at the end of the day in the pub over the road for all tutors and participants, which should be fun...

World Fiddle

This week sees SC&T's own Laura Lockyer take the World Fiddle workshop - teaching some pretty amazing tunes she has picked up on her travels (including American, Shetland, Scandinavian and Canadian tunes). 40 / 35 Friend of SC&T

Flatpicking Guitar

Previous SC&T tutor, John Carnie, leads this week's guitar workshop - playing traditional tunes in the flatpicking style. John has just released a flatpicking guitar cd which is enjoying considerable radio play and good reviews: "The cd is a box of delights... very fine playing" BBC Radio Scotland

Banjo / Mandolin

Tim Jones (previous SC&T tutor) and Kevin MacLeod (The Occasionals) lead a workshop which will concentrate on conveying a sense of enthusiasm and enjoyment in playing, bringing out features in playing style that capture the spirit of the tune. Style as opposed to speed! Tim is a member of local ceilidh band Jingbang, Kevin has played with The Occasionals since 1986, is a master of mandolin, bouzouki, tenor guitar & banjo, and has recorded acclaimed albums with the likes of Kris Drever and Shooglenifty. 45 / 40 Friend of SC&T

Workshops are held at Queen's Cross Church, Aberdeen. After workshop session (optional) at Dizzy's. Prior booking is essential. Please contact the office on 01224 591900 or email office@scottishculture.org to book your place.
