  1. A few updates. First, here's some nice press from Vital Weekly about The Horse Loom record. Craig John Davidson, who will be accompanied on the night by guitarrist extraordinare Innes Cardno, is featured on this sampler, which is for this very exciting event:...at which Davy Shanks will also be appearring! More info here, looking forward to it! Lots of links to plenty of Horse Loom gubbins here: The Horse Loom Looking forward to a weekend of excellent music, including this corker of a line-up, and then a Tuesday of... more excellent music. And the sun's out. Hurrah!
  2. Tuesday 25th September Midnight Resistance presents The Horse Loom Unit Ama, Kodiak, Crane guitarist Steven Malley delicately finger-picks heartfelt folk melodies. For fans of Bert Jansch, RM Hubbert, John Fahey Upcoming album on The Low Point - http://www.low-point.com/ http://www.myspace.com/horseloom Alan Davidson of kitchen Cynics, Matricarians. 'Key to his songs are sex, bicycles, the local graveyard, a love of Ivor Cutler, and an ear for a melody that can pluck your heartstrings, whilst the words resonate deep within.' - Terrascope.co.uk with Davy Shanks and Craig John Davidson Cellar 35, from 8pm, £4 entry Twitter: @horseloom, @Mresistance BOARD MODS: Sorry if this duplicates, as I originally posted in Upcoming Events only, not in the Gigs and Events Announcements thread, but obviously it would be better to actually have a thread for it.
  3. NEW ADDITION TO LINE-UP! We are very pleased indeed to have the wonderful Davy Shanks on board for this. He supported Chris on his last jaunt to Aberdeen, and you can get a taste of what he does here: http://www.myspace.com/thomasfoolerymusic
  4. Brighton based English singer-songwriter, Morning Star contributor, Twitter loo documenter (#loo2012), the man who taught us that Eminem is Gay, and revealed the heartstring-tugging properties of the Nintendo Wii... Following his 2010 release Love is Not Rescue with its critically lauded single/EP Nintendo, and his Bandcamp-only Disobedience album, Chris T-T tours his upcoming Sings Jeremy Clarkson to Sleep EP. His brilliantly observed vignettes on the stresses of modern life, love and politics are accompanied with an honesty and artfulness which goes some way to explaining his enduring appeal, from the early plays of his Beatverse (1999) début on Radio 1's Evening Session, to his performance on the 'fourth plinth' as part of Anthony Gormley's One and Other project. In recent years he has gigged with Ben Folds, The Divine Comedy, British Sea Power and The National, to name a few. "Genuine hairs on the back of the neck stuff. An incredible voice, heartbreaking, soaring and compelling all in one. ‘Nintendo’ was both a surprise and a joy to listen to, Chris T–T pulls something special out of the bag and brings it all to the table. Stunning from start to finish." - Altsounds http://christt.com/ -------------------- Chris will be joined by She Makes War - multi-talented multi-instrumentalist Laura Kidd, who combines a DIY ethos with a sublime voice and a new-riot-grrrl aesthetic. "Imagine appealingly grainy angst-pop à la Blood Red Shoes shot through in leftfield with the conceptual imagination of someone like Melissa Auf der Maur, and you’ll get somewhere close to She Makes War." - Wears The Trousers http://www.shemakeswar.com/ ------ Tickets available for £6 from wegottickets.com and One Up Records (note booking fee), or £7 on the night Doors 8.00pm -- Tickets should be live on wegottickets tomorrow, and in One Up this weekend!
  5. Really fancy this, but...buses. Ugh. (don't drive, see) Reckon it's not too hard to get a bus back to Aberdeen on a Friday night though, looking at the timetables.
  6. We're looking at: Craig John Davidson: 8:15 Matricarians: 9:00 Thomas Truax: 9:45 We reckon. There or thereabouts, you know how it goes.
  7. A kind of pre-announcement, if you will; Chris T-T will be gracing Cellar 35 with his presence on 26th April, with She Makes War in tow. NOW, there is a wee space for a local support, and we're currently having a look for someone to fit the bill by going to various gigs and (albeit drunkenly) making an assessment of their suitability for such a show. However, if you are a soloist, or possibly a couple of people, who feel your music would complement this line-up, we'd love to hear from you. Message us a link to yer stuff if you're interested. The full details will be up in this thread in good time, once tickets are set up etc. Also, Thomas Truax (the only other thing we've ever put on...) is nigh, next week in fact, but I foolishly neglected to make it into a thread on here, simply creating an event. Derp indeed. Hope to see some of you there, yeah?
  8. yep, job was indeed a good 'un. Thanks again to Steven and Alan, and of course Thomas (although I doubt he gets on here!). Knackered today, but it was worth it. Many thanks to all who came down.
  9. Stage Times should be like this: Steve Milne 8.25 Kitchen Cynics 9.20 Thomas Truax 10:15 These are subject to change. You statutory rights are not affected, etc... Effected? So tired...should be a good 'un, though.
  10. To be honest, I didn't realise when it was first booked. Hoping that it should be a great send-off.
  11. BUMP Tickets are available from One Up! Due to a major cock-up on the promotion front, I've done no physical/paper promotion for this, so will be frantically doing so over the next two-and-a-bit weeks.
