Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but someone drew my attention here. I don't know what The Great Scots Musicography is, but it's waaay wrong, the Jasmine Minks were formed out of an Aberdeen punk band called Bondage, who used to play at the 62 club, St K's and the East Neuk. Members were Jim Shepherd, Tom Reid and Adam Sanderson, and, despite it being repeated elsewhere on the net, there never was any Jim Bale or Martin Alvey. The band moved to London and picked up Martin Keena as bassist and went on to records 4 albums for Creation and one for Alan McGee's subsequent label, Poptones. They toured with the likes of Primal Scream, Jesus & Mary Chain and a lot of the Creation roster as well as acts like the Violent Femmes and the Pogues. I would not describe the music as either 60's or jangly. You can hear enough of it on the interweb or iTunes these days. If you think it's shite, however, that's up to you. Minks from Jasmine Terrace? Well, two out of three is not bad, I come from Kincorth. Jim Shepherd runs Oatcake records from his home in Glencoe. He released a Jasmine Minks EP recently, Poppy White, as well as a mini album from Ellon's favourites, APB. The next Jasmine Minks gig is at the Borderline in London on 23rd July. As for the Manic Street Preachers, yes, we were friends and they certainly listened to the Jasmines when they were younger. Richie Edwards did say that the "Preachers" part of their name came from the first Jasmine's mini album, but, to my recollection, none of the other Manics ever verified this.
