  1. I'm actually looking forward to seeing people who share my disgust of some of those bands. So if I fail to attract their fans I'm on the right track. Zeppelin, I don't mind. I like them but they're way overrated ... a subject I don't want to get into further on this thread anyway.

Call it superior or whatever but I like to think I have standards.

But the only problem is....you mention A-HA in your list of favs ?(

I'm not being funny...but A-HA?? hardly up there with the "superior" bands out there o_O

  2. I'm not interested in the polititcs or 'non' politics of music. I just want to listen to music i like and play music i like, but i am interested in why my influences sound the way they do and what turned them on. We could argue all day about who were the better musicians, who got more airplay, if a band became "famous" due to the death of their singer etc.

If you like something i don't i'm not gonna judge you on it. Wouldn't it be boring if music was made for all the "right" reasons? I mean bands like RATM were very politically motivated, which doesn't interest me...BUT i love their music. is that wrong? And i love songs with a melody, but equally i love a song that has none Morbid Angel, Deicide, Meshuggah etc.

    I just love music.

  3. is there market for it?

why not get some guys together and get some original material. at least if people like your music they will be complimenting your music and you not performing other peoples tracks.

if you are keen on a tribute band then consider having a cover bands doing various songs of different bands

The only 'problem' with being in an original band is that unless your in it to make it big or atleast have a go at it(which i suppose we all are to start with), your likely to play to empty venues more often than not, which is pretty demoralising after a while. At least with a cover/tribute people know what they are getting from the word go.

I did the "originals" thing for around 8 years and it did beging to grind after a while when you know it's not really taking off any further than your back door. Yes playing your own tracks is a buzz but there comes a time when you have to ask....where are we going with it?

I just love playing music and enjoy it and more often than not the best way to do that is by playing in a covers band/tribute band. In my opinion anyway.

  4. A few more details if anyone's reading.

I like the more noodling era of Floyd, post Barrett - Animals era.

Maiden - More of a Dianno and Blaze era fan.

    Halen - Roth almost entirely

I'd also add old school thrash (Slayer, Testament) alongside the melodic Blind Guardian.

I'm also totally sick of seeing Beatles/Zep gracing magazine covers and hearing about the 'importance' of punk music and Nirvana. Can't stand the UK music press.

I like alot of the artists you mention, but can you in all honesty say that punk music and Nirvana were not important? I dont like the music Oasis make but i know they were a hugely important band. I suppose it's all about opinions.

  5. Besides others, Springsteen, Robert Palmer, Missing Persons, Pantera, Kiss, Status Quo, Lizzy, Blind Guardian, stoner/doom, 70s prog, John Coltrane, The Police.

Major influences are the ones in the thread title.

Looking to see if there's like minded people, fat chance I would think.

I'm not interested in a cover band. And I think Oasis and indie music along with generic Acdc/Judas Priest style metal bands, as well as so called progressive metal, to say nothing of modern radio rock should all be thrown in a bottomless pit.

Good luck in your quest :headbang:

  6. Hi,

Im a 24yr old drummer, ive played in a few bands over the years from most recently an originals band playing songs that were likened to foo fighters (colour and the shape era) melodic punchy music with a few covers such as whiskey in the jar (an ol favourite) to a breif stint in a metallica/iron maiden-ish band.

Since my last band split up recently im looking for a new band to move on to, im interested in almost anything as long as it has a good kick...be it covers or originals.

not into playing screamo stuff....just to give you an idea of some of my tastes in music...

Metallica, foo fighters, SOAD, RATM, bush, through to blink 182, Greenday, and some lighter stuff too...

get in touch if your interested, i can be pretty committed and have all my own gear and transport.

    Chris

    Hi there,

Whats your thoughts on a tribute band? QOTSA? Audioslave? SOAD? or a coversband playing songs "we" want to hear? Im fed up watching cover bands play the same old same old.

Ive been in a few original bands but just want to have fun playing which you dont always get with being in an original band.

If you think it's something you'd be up for let me know.

    Cheers,

  7. So no takers for keys/samples etc? Vocals too??? No Trent Reznors out there??. I think a tribute act like this would go down a storm. Just imagine playing songs like 'Head like a hole' , 'Last' , 'Heresy' , Happiness in Slavery' , 'Were in this together' , 'The Perfect drug' , 'Thats what i get' , 'Discipline' and 'The beginning of the end' at some sweaty venue???? What a buzz!!!!!

    Come on...your out there waiting.

  8. Looking to join or even form a band. I have a pretty wide taste in music and my influences include Parkway Drive, Bless The Fall, The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying, Eluveitie, I Killed The Prom Queen, Evergreen Terrace, Killswitch Engage etc etc

If anyone's interested you can leave me a message here, Pm me or get me on evil666santa@hotmail.com thanks!

    Nine Inch Nails?

  9. We need a guitarist..

I'm looking to get playing regularly, been in a few bands rock indie and metal though not that keen on screaming tho have tried my hand. influences: the cure, enter shikari, Bon Scott, the hives, the jesus and mary chain, the cribs. i enjoy writing, up for most things

You looking at originals? covers? bit of both?

I'm in a band at the moment who are doing covers of stuff like The Hives, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Audioslave, The Killers, Jimmy eat World etc. May start writing original stuff in the future but just wanna get gigging and have a good time just now.

My influences range from band like Audioslave - S.O.A.D - NIN - American Head Charge - Raging Speedhorn - The Dillinger escape plan - Deftones - My Vitriol - Pitchshifter - Depeche Mode - U2 - The Cult - 36 Crazy fists - Coheed and Cambria - The Cure - Rammstien - The Strokes - Placebo - Aerosmith - Soungarden - Jimmy Eat World - Velvet Revolver etc etc

Our other guitarist is a bit of a rocker/metal man too. Drummer is a bit more laid back, stuff like Radiohead - Coldplay - Stereophonics etc.

Sound like your kinda thing? If so give me a shout.

  10. Putting the feelers out to see if anyone would be keen on forming a Nine Inch Nails tribute band. I feel that the tribute scene is somewhat lacking, what with all the 'usual' bands out there..AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Kiss etc etc. All very good but done to death. I'd love to get a great tribute band going and seeing as i love NIN and it's something i think would do well i'm gonna see what comes of it.

Probably be Guitar(s) Bass(me) Keyboards, Drums, Vocals.

So who's up for it?

  11. We need a guitarist who can sing backing vocals

I am a guitarist lead/rhythm looking for a band to join/form. I have been playing guitar for ten years and singing for five. Have plenty of band experience (fronting) but really looking to do some lead/rhythm guitar and backing vocals. My influences are huge but for the sake of it, Iron Maiden, Guns n roses, Thin lizzy, Avenge seven Fold, Gary Moore, Boston, Areosmith, DragonForce, Trivium, Queen, Metallica, red hot chillis, Led Zeplin etc etc etc etc.

I'm basically up for playing any quality songs in a cover band or writing original material. I have original material written by myself that can be used. I am a singer songwriter but love my old school rock.

Anyway if there's anyone out there thats interested in a guitarst backing vocalist let me know. I'd prefer to take a step back from the spotlight but would concider another frontman position if the band is right.

I'm 27 live in Aberdeen Have my own equipment and transport. I use a BCrich Neck Thru Series with Marshall Mode Four 400watt cab. I have a PA system aswell if needed. Contact me at adam.mckay@hotmail.co.uk

    Hey, howz it goin?

I'm in a Covers band who have just recently got going and were looking for another guitarist who can sing backing vocals. We are also on the look out for a singer too but hopefully that position won't be too difficult to fill. We are doing covers of stuff like Kings Of leon,Strokes,Jimmy eat World,Coldplay,Stereophonics etc etc. The influences of the guys in the band vary from the likes of Coldplay,Radiohead all the way through to myself who's into heavier stuff like Raging Speedhorn and the likes. We just want to gig stuff that really isn't being gigged at the moment which also has to be what we all like. As much as i love some of the Old School rock(AC/DC,Aerosmith etc) it's been done to death. I don't know about you but when i go into a bar to watch a band and they start playing "the boys are back in town" and the likes i kinda go "not again".

Maybe you should come and jam with us and see what you think? Whats the worst that can happen? You don't like what we do and you say thanks but no thanks? Nothing ventured...!!!!

Have a think about it and get intouch. email.... superchan.one@virgin.net

    Cheers.
