  1. Hmm! Got a bit distracted there!

The reason I stumbled upon this thread is because I was doing a search for an old Aberdeen band called 'One God Universe'. Reason being is I was trying to get a hold of some of their music? Ive tried One Up and the wee record shop under One Up but no joy!

Anyone know where I could get a hold of any of their stuff?

    Cheers

  2. The Downroads

The Leap who were formely Stereophonic but changed their name because of the stereophonics.

Geez! This thread is 5 years old!! But hey ho!

The Leap? are you being serious? They were awful. I think they were called 'Club Stereophonic' before they decided to change to The Leap. Didn't they have the Tallest singer in the world? haha!

Best local band I ever saw were called 'Charlotte Says'. Cracking band. I think it was a girl called Jo McCAfferty who sang for them.

  3. Good to hear that the Tilted wig is evolving into a "proper" venue.

Any chance of a gig? We actually asked about the chances of a gig about a couple of months ago but never got much positive feedback.

Are you only booking 'experienced" bands? We are relatively new on the covers scene but wanna gig as much as we can.

Anyhoos, looking forward to coming and checking the place out.

  4. Ok iam just going to set the record straight here because i have been through this before when alt nation took over the classic grand and there was this whole "battle" with the cathouse. In which the end both clubs stopped trying to one up each other and now both run very busy nights which people enjoy.

As far as iam concerned korova have a really good rock night that people enjoy going to on a friday night, ben and hendo are good djs and giving away all the signed shit in the world dosent mean a god damn thing because if those 2 could lay down then people wouldnt go.

On the flip side there is just as many people go the Warehouse and love it there. Sandy and myself have lots of fun and giving away signed shit isnt why we are in it, its because we fucking love to rock and make people rock.

At the end of the day aberdeen is a pretty boring city compared to glasgow, manchester, london and having a choice is a bloody good thing.

So as far as iam concerned lets just chill out and have a good time with a jager in hand and a beasting tune in our ear....... no matter which club you go to.

    Ok love you all Captain

    x

If Aberdeen is "pretty boring" compared to Glasgow,Manchester,London....go live in Glasgow,Manchester or London.

  5. Hey guys,

I play Bass and Id be keen to give it a go. Im in my mid Thirties, have played in bands before and like the rockier side of music. Infact, im a bit partial to the heavier side of rock too.

I listen to the likes of Foo fighters, Fall out Boy, Audioslave, NIN, Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, Faith No More, The Cult, AC/DC, David Bowie, KOL, Killers, Radiohead, Van Halen, Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, SoundGarden, 36 Crazy Fists, S.O.A.D, Korn, Rammstein, Tool, Anthrax, Marylin Manson, GN'R, Deftones, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, American Head Charge, Raging Speedhorn, Slayer,Machine Head etc etc.

Ive got my own gear and can practise most evenings and weekends.

Give me a shout back if your interested.

    Cheers.

  6. still waiting................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Why aren't you looking for a bassist? :swearing:

I'd love to be involved in a project like this.

Anyone go see Chemical Callum on Friday night?

  7. Hi Chris,

I'm a grade 6 guitarist and have been playing Oasis and the Beatles etc for the past seven years. I have a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Strat for the right sound.

If you are still looking to fill Gem Archer's position my number is 07547133854.

    Cheers

    Steve Ross

Wouldn't advise you to post your mobile number guys.

    Just a thought.

  8. Hi folks,

I am a 29 year old bass player, been in Aberdeen for about 7 years, studied up here, now working. However, I have my longest yearning to start a funk band. Fellow band members must share similar taste.

My influences/likes: Herbie Hancock, The meters, Pleasure, Zeppelin, Franz Ferdinand, Lalo Schriffin(Dirty Harry, Bullitt, Magnum Force theme tunes), Funkadelic, Jonas Hellborg, John Mclaughlin, Mandrill, Joe Tex, The Commodores(some of the funky stuff), Stevie Wonder, Talking Heads, Brecker Brothers, AC/DC, Tower of Power...etc Tight bands!

I wouldn't classify Aberdeen as having a funk scene compared to the likes of Glasgow/Edinburgh....but there must be some folk out there who want to groove?? Possibly play covers, then progress from there.....

    :)

I'd love to get involved in this, unfortunately i'm a bass player too.

I love all types of music but i'm really into stuff like graham Central Station, Earth Wind and Fire, The Meters, Black Heat, Cold Grits, Charles Watts and th 103rd St rhythm band, Bootsy, Wilson Pickett, Detroit Sex Machines etc.

Let us know how it gets on.

  9. you cant be daft enough to think this site actually offers an insight into the vast types of music being performed in this city right?

Infact this site offers very little in the way of an insight into anything other than the popular genre's of music, ie rock, metal, punk or pop music. Aberdeen offers alot, if you bother to look for it, which the bbc obvioulsy didnt, which isnt a suprise due to the fact they would have less trouble finding out about events further south.

Dont discount aberdeen like most people do, its the easy way out.

Well said that man. I get totally pissed off when folk slate Aberdeen and what is "doesn't offer" Well if it aint "your cup of tea" feck off to where it is "your cup of tea"

There have been and indeed are shit loads of good bands in Aberdeen but it's this attitude of the central belt is better that is stifling the talent up here.

So, get up of yer arses and either A. look for whats good musically in Aberdeen instead of jumping on the Glasgow,Edinburgh etc are miles better bandwagon. or B. Move to Glasgow or Edinburgh as you clearly dont find what stimulates you in Aberdeen.

  10. By top flight I mean guys who can actually play better than a complete beginner.

I have wasted so much time with guys who "think" they can play but in reality are nowhere near the standard to entertain properly. Bedroom players generally end up staying in the bedroom, players on the other hand entertain.

Best you stay away from Oasis lovers then. Eh ST?

    :headbang:

  11. Lead / Rythm guitarist (28) looking to start a band.

Pretty broad minded so long as it aint hardcore/metal (which i dont mind but dont particularly want to play).

Would like to form with peeps around kinda 25 and up or something.

PS My brother does the screaming in DanaWalker band - any u guys know them? They`re in Aberdeen occasionally..

Hey. I know you say your open minded but do you have any preferences? I'm keen to get going again after a bit of a lay-off. I'm 33 and have a love loads of different styles but my favourite would be stuff like SOAD, Audioslave, NIN, Faith No More, Placebo, My Vitriol, Kings Of Leon, Janes Addiction, Velvet Revolver etc.

I've been in a few bands in Aberdeen before but have not played a gig for around 7 years and not been practising as much as i should, but i really miss it. I was up for playing covers but having given it some thought playing originals was more of a buzz.

I play bass and I'd be up for a jam at anytime.

    Cheers

  12. Fans of A-ha include: U2, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, Graham Nash, Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Travis, Oasis. Members of Travis and Coldplay have backed A-HA's keyboardist on his solo album. Chris Martin's vocals are an attempt to copy Morten Harket's style. Coldplay have covered more than one A-ha song live. Martin has spoken of his love for A-HA's album Hunting high and low. Q, NME and other mags should be read with a pinch of salt.

    YouTube - a-ha - Cosy Prisons: Video

Well, the very fact that Coldplay seem to be big fans tells me all i need to know. Chris Martin is so far up his own arse it's not even funny.

Anyway....you mention all these artists who are fans of A-HA, so i'm assuming that these endorsements are meant to suggest that A-HA are indeed a "good" "popular" "credible" band etc etc? You may or may not have a point.

I wonder how many famous artists are fans of the bands(Led Zep,AC/DC,Oasis,Nirvana etc) you mention with such distaste??

I'm pretty sure the likes of Led Zep have influenced far more rock/pop stars than A-HA, No?

    Just a thought.
