Some fine suggestions there, much appreciated.
Some bands weren't included because they're no longer active (Altered Images last album of new material was in 1983; Life Without Buildings broke up in 2002).
Belle and Sebastian are missing only because I decided to go for the Campbell / Lanegan collaboration instead. Idlewild are one of a number of bands who missed out because I couldn't get excited enough about any of their songs - though I realise I'm in a minority over this !
Alisdair Roberts, on the other hand, was overlooked because I didn't know of him. I've just been listening to this track, which is certainly good enough to be on the list :
.I've got my ticket to see Dick Gaughan next week - I'm looking forward to seeing the great man.

I've put together a list of 50 top songs by 50 of my favourite Scottish bands / artists currently active - 50 top tunes from Scotland My Weblog . My own choices obviously, but I've tried to represent something of the variety of good stuff that's out there, and feature a few new bands.
I'm interested to know what you all would have picked.

Best 3 Bands heard this year for the first time : Glasvegas, Santogold, James McMurtry
Best gigs this year : Dick Gaughan, Leon Rosselson and Attila the Stockbroker on the same bill was pretty awesome
Best Releases of 2008 : I've compiled my top 50 songs ! 50 best tunes of 2008 My Weblog
Best Result of the Year : Liverpool losing to Barnsley
Best Purchase of the year : ipod
Biggest Disappointment : musically I'd say the Kings of Leon album
Looking forward to 2009 : looks like there's a new Laura Marling album in the works
