  1. I tend to watch the auditions so I can shout at the ludicrous nature of television, especially the parts where the camera crew go their school/office/asylum as friends/colleagues/people who don't even know them 'wait anxiously' to hear the news. Yes that's right, we've gathered everyone together so you can witness Mufty the singing dustbin come in and tell you they didn't get through, then broadcast their disgrace on national television. Right.

Actually it would be much better if they did that.

Also '5 million people turned up to this year's auditions', yes, but 95% of those were the contestants families, dolled up with their best slap from superdrug hoping to get on telly. Where do they all come from? I doubt that many folk would appear for my funeral.

  2. When I was about 4 or 5 there was a stop motion kids programme on every halloween about a pumpkin on a stick that came to life and terrorised the neighbourhood. Scared the crap out of me every year for no real reason, but I still watched it.

Sadly nowadays theres way too many rational things to be scared about to bother with the irrational ones.

  3. I hate to be the party pooper, but IN MY OPINION it wasn't as good as the previous film.

Ledger was great but underused, and plotwise it failed to deliver on several levels whilst in the vein of many recent superhero movies trying to do too much in its alloted time.

Enjoyable but messy and lacking suspense.

  4. It's not just Aberdeen, it's all cities; they're just a homogenous mess for the most part. People mindlessly spending their weekends trawling shopping centres for something to wear when they go shopping next weekend.

Having said all that, I feel Aberdeen has a fine heritage and plenty of interesting people to boot. Yes there are negatives which have been discussed, but they're pretty much the same negatives you'll find across the UK. Although the city's long term future is unclear, it'll definitely still be here.

If you truly want to feel different, think more about how you live than where you live.

  5. Yep the push pins are definitely a pain. THe stock coolers are badly made though and the 3rd party ones easier to fit in my experience. If in doubt though, best to whip the MB out so you can support it from behind, a broken MB is never a happy day.

  6. If you're only recording, likely your processor isn't being pushed so you can easily go into BIOS and turn down the fan speed on the cpu cooler by 25% or more (experiment with different speeds under different loads to get the best mix).

When I built my core2duo rig a year or so ago, the stock cooler was pretty noisy though, so I switched it out for one of these Akasa jobs. It's cheap, cheerful and quiet, just check you have the headroom in the case for it.
