Apparantly they used to. That is, until Mr record label executive money maker hotshot tit for unleashing keane on the british public came along. Yeah, he was one of the thousand.
-
I disagree with Stripey's initial sentiment, not least because they made some money on an album that they offered for as little as free.
Spot on.
Now I'm not one for saying that disappearing up ones arse is a good thing for oneself, BUT I think they were a pretty ordinary band, until Hail To The Thief.

What the fuck were you doing up at half 8 in the morning? We didn't get in till back o 3!
Nothing like a refreshing early morning swim in the north sea to get rid of your sunday hangover.

Nah, for me music without guitars is like bees without honey. Unless we're talking Classical or some jazz music. Or Little Richard.

I read this about two years ago; don't even care if it won the booker prize, I disliked it ALOT. Talking tigers? Living on a lifeboat?
Some ''inner meanings''? WITM8.
To my surprise, I found this book in my loft after reading this thread. I thought it was going to be shit cause I thought it had talking animals in it(The boy only thought it was the tiger talking in his confused tired state)Anyways, great book, I'd recommend it to anyone.

How do you go about arranging/structuring the music that you write? How much do you rely on pre-existing "standard" structures which fit the genre you're writing in?
If (like me) you usually start off with the core of an idea such as a few bars of a beat or a bassline, how do you go about developing that into a tune?
Hmm cant really answer that cause I never start with bassline or beat. Always chords or riffs that I work into chords. I don't set out to rely on standard structures, I just let it flow and do what I feel/hear is right. And it usually results in songs that have standard structures.

I would say I'm a casual fan, have the Greatest Hits and a couple of others. Just downloaded a Steve Earle bootleg with Bruce as a special guest the other day.
Funnily enough I would say Born in the USA is my least favourite "Boss" track, the synth sounds really crappy.
Anybody heard his original version of Pink Cadillac? It's good!
I heard a song I've never heard before yesterday and it mentioned cadillacs a few times. It was unmistakably the boss and I loved it from the very first chords.
I used to dislike Born In The USA but once I understood that the lyrics were anti-usa suddenly I could hear it in a new light. It rocks, as does many of his other songs. Springsteen claims Born To Run was his attempt at writing the best rock and roll song ever. I must say, he comes mighty close. Superb!

Yip fair dos. Just posting the first thing that came inte my head.

I was just thinking about how cool the more 'experimental' Clash stuff actually is, having loathed it back in my punx days, and was wondering if anyone knew of another band who were mixing jamaican music with punk rock before them? 'The Clash' came out in 1977, is there anything earlier than this that defines the sound better than 'White Man In Hammersmith Palais'?
I'm a huge clash fan but 'White Man' is one song that just doesn't do it for me. Good job the clash were experimental or London Calling wouldn't have been what it is.

This 17 year old keeper has never played for his club (Dynamo Tblisi). Seems a very odd choice. He could of course be the next big thing and play out of his skin.
Are Georgia a nation whose fans endorse the use of those most annoying horns popular in Eastern Europe? Can we expect 90 minutes of shrill honking? Gives me a headache that.
Apparantly he's 3rd choice keeper for his club. There's 2 georgians ahead of him. The georgian coach claims he's the most talented player he's ever worked with. It does seem a bit odd. Think I might have a headache from singing never mind honking. Though my armpits will surely be honking in the couldron of the forum

?(?(?(?(
a tad drunk when I posted this. I just meant some people are overly concerned with the Georgians.
Anways, It seems there's 2 different camps now with some folks now expecting to rip a new Georgian arsehole. Georgia have their captain out, vice captain out, and a couple of their best players injured. They've got as much withdrawals as us now and their lobbing this 17 year old baby in between the sticks.(he's probably 6 foot 10) Good to see Maloney in instead of daily.
The jambos kit comments are a bit picky but then again, they ARE both minging strips.

We'd have to win by 2 clear goals though, as they beat us 2-0 in Bari.
If we beat Italy we're through, simple as that. Doesn't matter by how much or what the score against Georgia is. Georgia are 2nd bottom by the way, worse than Lithuania. It was the ukriane game I was more worried about.
-
Don't know why everyones so concerned with Georgia. Fair enough away game, eastern european opposition but they are SHIT. They're 2nd last in the group below Lithuania. I was very worried about Ukraine game but I think we'll beat Georgia comfortably-ish. I'm still a bit concerned though.
Oh, and Shevschenko was never a pen. He took a fresh air swipe and fell onto whoever made the wayward tackle. Ref got it right
Anyway, we'll be coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm didn't know Toms hired stuff out. Checked that other place atmospheric sounds but a bit expensive. Potential profit, say goodbye Will give Toms a phone though to check prices and then use em as a back up if needsbe. Must be somebody in the burgh who has the rig though so I'll keep on the lookout.

Hi there.
Does anyone happen to know anyone who may be able to hire out speakers and mixer for solo gigs in the Fraserburgh area?
-
Del is being too kind!!!!
I like these a lot...
Spirit doing 'The times they are a changin'' & 'Like a rolling stone' on 'Spirit of 76'
Smokey Robinson 'I heard it through the grapevine'
Bert Jansch 'Blues run the game'
Interesting. I'd say Gladys Knights version of 'I heard it through the Gravevine'. Haven't heard Smokies version. 'I Fought The Law' is a good shout.
I'd have to add off top o my head
'Respect' - Aretha Franklin
Stones version of 'Stop Breaking Down'
'Stand By Me' - Lennon

Most cringeworthy that I've heard recentlyish would be anything by The Feeling. But especially in the chorus of 'love it when you call' or whatever the hell it's called. As though the song isn't bad enough, then they chip in:
He loves it when you call x3
But you never call at all
Aaaarrrgggg!!! As cringeworthy as it gets!

Just finished '2001:A Space Odyssey' by Arthur C.Clarke.
Utterly fantastic!

Cheers guys!
Time to get on the blower to some of these venue booker types.

It helps if your unemployed of course! And if your willing to be a slave to the art! For me, it's basically chords-melody-lyrics but lots of possibilities. I guess everyone works differently. I can only work alone, tried collaboration few years back but always had the feeling of needing to be in control. Knicked a melody from a bird once, of the winged variety that is. Hmm, maybe I was at the time. Anyways, least it cudna do me for plagarism! The song was poop.

Young Dylan as anti-establishment folksinger to wrinkly Dylan endorsing ipods, womens lingerie and God knows what else was a bit of a sellout. Mind you if your gonna endorse anything, might aswell be womens lingerie!

Howdi folks.
I'm a solo artist currently looking for gigs in the granite city. I'm bashing out my tunes on acoustic at the moment and being unestablished I'd be open to any support slots/venues. My music is energetic, soulful and catchy and influenced by classic pop/rock'n'roll. The good shit! Get a wee taster at MySpace.com - Colin Mac - Glasgow, Scotland - Pop / Rock / Acoustic - www.myspace.com/colinmac Also if anyones in the same boat, gimme a PM if ye want te chat about gigs n stuff.8-)
Cheers

Lowering action
in Musicians' Corner
Posted
Hi folks.
Ok, so after all these years I finally know first hand that high action, among other things can be bad for your wrists. I was thinking of lowering the action myself, just by sanding down the saddle. Seems simple enough and I found a good website taking you through things step by step. What do you think? Easy enough to DIY or take it to the shop?
