  1. Hmm...maybe I should list a couple influences. Includes but not limited to The Stones, Beatles, Clash, Bowie, 50's rock'n'roll, soul/motown. Still on the lookout so PM me if it tickles your fancy...

  2. Aberdeens newest rock'n'roll band 'The Fugitives' are looking for a drummer to complete the line up. We have free access to recording facilites and will be recording and gigging very soon. Looking for someone who can jump on board, pick up the songs quickly, and we should be gigging as a full band before xmas. Songs are written, no pissing about, talent a must, egos welcome as long as they are backed up with talent. PM for more info!

  3. Looking for bassist, drummer and 2nd guitarist for recording, gigging and good times. Will also be looking to get in touch with any pianists, saxophone and trumpet players that may be willing to get involved in recording projects in the not too distant future. Gotta have rythym, gotta have soul.

    Classic influences:Beatles,Stones,Clash,Bowie,Blues,Soul/Motown. Lets'av'it

  4. i cant believe after moaning about my wrist hurting, the scaffolding i was dismantling today callapsed and i broke said wrist and am now in a cast for 6 weeks........ what a cunt i am

Feck me, that's a blow. But then again, it'll give your wrist muscles a good six weeks at least to get a rest. And during that time, you could maybe do some research on the net to find out about musicians repetative strain injuries. Carpal tunnel syndrome for example is surprisingly common in guitarists and other musicians. Prevention is better than a cure they say and for good reason.

  5. what 8 track do you have?

i have a fostex mr-8 hd/cd and to be honest, the level of hiss and recording quality, even on non miced up instruments (electric guitar) is fucking shocking for whats meant to be a good 8-track.

    anyone else had this problem?

I've got a zoom mrs-802 with cd. Got to say, the level of hiss is non-existenet when I plug electric guitatar straight into the recorder. I'm pretty satisfied with the results I'm getting. I use mics for recording vocals(obviously) and sometimes guitar and now piano and I find that the mixing and your recording levels(obviosuly) goes a long way to determining how much hiss you hear. Ins hort, keep experimenting! You don't need a 80 000 000 record deal to record great music! Good songs help though!

Also I've experimented this weekend with recording my old rickety piano and again I've found that the mix goes a long way to determining what you want to hear and what you dont want to hear. Although ultimately I'm aiming for the recording quality that Lennon and Spectre got at the start of 'Imagine'. More experimentation needed methinks!

  6. Good to see that your puttiing the effort in although I would never rely on a random band generator to give you a name. As was previously mentioned, it'll come in time, it'll come natuarally but it should look and sound good. I mean 'The all-for-nots'. I ask ye?!? You just know they're gonna be shit!

  7. Cheers guys. I've just recorded piano and acoustics with my shure 58 and I guess I could experiment a bit more with placement for the piano and I know this aint the mic for recording these instruments. I just wanted to find something to work with for easyness and hopefully not to compromise too much for authenticness.

  8. Hi there. Hopefully some of you kind folks can help and give me some advice. I own an 8 track and I'm very happy with it and the recordings that I've been making. I want to take the quality to a new level though.

I'd like to get some sounds from other instruments such as violin, piano and brass. What's the easiest way to do this? I've got an upright piano but the level of hiss is at an unacceptable level. I'm going to get an audio programme from a friend for the pc so I can experiment with that. Howeveer, an old friend used to have a small portable drum machine where you could plug in your guitar, play licks and melodies and it would produce pretty good sounds that closely resembled various instruments. This would be ideal. Any pointers?

  9. Looking to join a wedding/party/pub band, you know the type. Play lead and rythym, pick up songs easily, pretty experienced, sorted for gear, would also consider bass duties. Looking to make some dosh while having a good time.

    PM me to talk.

    Cheers

    Colin

  10. Howdi.

I'm looking to form a band.(well duh) I'm setting out playing solo but looking to get musicians on board who have at least a few years experience and who can improvise. Old skool rock'n'roll and classic pop influences. A love of The Beatles or Stones would be just grand. An accompanyment(my spelling possibly fails me) guitarist would also be a good start. Check MySpace.com - Colin Mac - Glasgow, Scotland - Pop / Rock / Acoustic - www.myspace.com/colinmac for some fairly recentish songs. Then maybe we can talk n jam. Good times ahead!

    Cheers folks

ps. ignore that glasgow muck. I'm in the deen noo

  11. It is a bit frustrating sometimes. For the about section, I had to search on the internet for a site that gave me the codes to allow me to start new bloody paragraphs. Evidently pressing the enter key is too simple for them.

If you go onto my site Elwood, you'll get a link to an editor that I found pretty decent. It definately is worth the effort to set up a page, another way of getting gigs nice and simple.

  12. What type of guitar is it?

It's a tanglewood acoustic. Minds made up now, DIY route it is although buying a couple spares sounds like a good idea. Seems like a waste to put it to the shop, be charged money and have to wait a week for it to come back when it's a relatively simple adjustment. Cheers folks
