  1. Yes,

It'd be a pain the tits to organise but let's face it, audiences are hard as fuck to find these days and normal gigging strategies don't work for most bands in my opinion; first few gigs great, then once excitement is over you hit a wall of steadily diminishing attendance.

I agree with everything you're saying here. My big worry now is that now our band has got to a decent gigging standard, we will start to stagnate playing the same places in Aberdeen. Its hard to get all the band to come out of their comfort zone and do some different places. Also there is the costs of travelling far and wide (new bands rarely cover costs in that one). whilst I am lucky enough to be able to spend a bit of my own cash to do these things, its not the same for everyone.

  2. Thanks guys, you have saved me alot of time. I thought alot of these places might be as you described, but I didn't want to make any rash assumptions. I guess its a population thing. Only a small percentage of any town seek out new live music, so a small population can't support gigging bands. I guess its a shame for people who live there that would like to see something different.

  3. Ok, I am not actually from Aberdeen but have lived here ten years. I know a little about some of the towns near here, but not in terms of live music scene. Is it worth trying to gig in any of the following places, and if so, could anyone tell me the best places? We are a band that does our own material, so not really suitable for places that want a singalong covers band.

    Stoney

    Ellon

    Portlethan

    Peterhead

    Inverurie

    Keith

    Huntly

    Montrose

    Forfar

    Arbroath

    Dundee

    Perth.

    Thanks, Paul.

  4. Thanks for all the posts. I had a look on the band banners site, I think we will go with that. Personally, I think it does make the band look more organised and stand out. Sure, you eventually live or die by the music, but not every punter is a muscician, so its good to have some visual impact. Its not the be all or end all, but they do look quite jazzy!

  5. Thanks, I agree that the projector could be difficult to place and could have a crappy look if uneven and obscured. I have considered a design that can be folded if necessary in order to fit smaller venues. thanks for the advise on fire safety - i hadn't considered that!

they probably are a hassle, but whenever I see a band with a backdrop, i find it makes them stand out and look more professional. Maybe its my impressionable mind, but I'm sure it has a subconscious effect on others too!

  6. My band are thinking of getting a big backdrop made to use at gigs. It will be about 6ft x 10ft, black background with red and white graphics on top (simple design really). Does anyone know where these can be made at a good price?

  7. Rebel Roullette are playing Tiger Tiger on 4th Sept 09. We are looking for a local band who would be able to play around 30 - 45 mins support slot.

In order not to have a complete mismatch of music styles, please do NOT reply if your music is thrash, RnB, hip hop, Heavy Metal. Basically we are looking for something a bit Indie Rock.

If you think you would be interested contact Paul at scousecurtis@hotmail.co.uk.

    thanks

  8. I'd be a guitarist. and bassist. maybe even if you're lucky some form of vocalist. backing, most likely.

Into a range of stuff. Would be looking to form a indie/punk band, based on a mix of the clash, ramones, libertines, manics, slfs, etc.

    Hi,

you responded to my thread about jamming sometime. I rarely come on here, so missed it. If you wanna contact me about arranging a session, email my hotmail and I will guarantee a response.

    Sorry about that!

    Paul
