  1. Mbabu. This kid has had Pedro in his pocket all day, and then just put Hazard on his face with a great challenge. Gung-ho full backs are just the best thing to watch.

It's impossible to not like Mitrovic too.

As I type, they've made a bollocks of it. Willian with his trademark jammy goal.

Felt like a 5-0 loss in the end.

Fantastic stuff from Perez (the GOAT), Mitrovic, Mbabu and Colback (!!!). More of that please.

  2. He seems like a decent guy, so I don't actively dislike him yet, he's just not cut-out for the job (on current evidence). At least he's probably got the self respect to resign if it's unsalvageable, unlike the two previous incumbents.

  3. Yeah, I'd describe last night as "fine." It was a dung game, but we won so... fuck it.

Our squad depth is nuts at the moment. Plenty of options all across the board, especially in defence. That McLaughlan looked a decent player last night and while I'm a big Shay Logan fanboy, competition is always good.

I don't know how long this can realistically go on for but we'd be selling ourselves short to aim for second this season.

  4. We're pretty shit at the moment. Shteve is slowly trying to change things but he needs to find something that works soon. Mind you, he is trying to undo 3/4 years of rank mismanagement. That'll take some doing.

Central midfield and left back are so bad for us at the moment. Surprised we haven't strengthened those positions.

  5. That was definitely not the game that should have been televised today. Muck, aside from the first 20 minutes. Zero shots on target for Newcastle but hit the bar. 8 shots mostly straight down the middle for United but hit the post.

Why is Mata out wide and Januzaj in the middle? Why is Herrera not playing ever, after proving last season he is dynamite despite being benched for the first 4 months? If neither can be trusted as a #10 with a Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin double pivot behind, then there is no hope. Midfield's don't get much more solid than that. Mata or Herrera flanked by wingers would be great. Instead, it just looks like this:

The back six is solid. The front four is a disjointed mess where nobody but Memphis is actually suited to the position they're in, and there's no link between the two.

    Michael Owen though.

"Not a foul for me. That's just two shoulders coming together"

*Shows the replay of feet being trodden on*

    Silence.

    The worst.

Heartening stuff from us. Schteve did a fantastic job of reacting to the first 15-20 minutes and adjusting his tactics to nullify Man United's attack, which had been tearing us to pieces early doors. We genuinely haven't had a manager who makes in-game tactical changes in bloody years. Pardew and Carver just kinda sat back and let things take their course, no matter how good/bad we were doing.

Pass marks for most of our XI, apart from Colback and Obertan. Horrible footballers. We looked a lot better when we pulled Wijnaldum back into CM, with him and Colback sitting in front of Anita. Coloccini produced his best performance in a long time and I can tell I'm going to absolutely love Mitrovic already.

    Pleasing.

  6. I hope Schteve unleashes Mitrovic on Man United tomorrow. 2 sub appearances, 2 bookings. Guy's a fucking lunatic: I saw some training footage early and he was flying in on Ayoze Perez and Vurnon Anita like prime Lee Cattermole. It's been far too long since we had a proper lunatic in the team.

  7. Finished Friday Night Lights. So much weird American teen drama stuff but I don't even care. Not sure how I'm gonna be able to get through life without Coach's nuggets of wisdom every day.

Also burned through the first season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in about seven days. My Netflix game is on a different level to most mortals.

Bloodline next I think. NEED MORE COACH.

  8. I don't mind the lycra nonsense - what fucks me off is these cunts on bikes on the back roads between Alford and Westhill with no helmets and no hi-vis.

    xx

It's the motherfuckers who cycle on the pavement that get my goat. Wellington Road is rife with them during rush hour. I've just stopped moving for them now, which is probably going to get me splattered someday, but the level of seethe when they have to get off their bike/go onto the road is awesome.

Get yourself a helmet, get some hi-vis, read the Highway Code and get the fuck off my pavement with your self-entitled attitude, you little shit. I'm the pedestrian: you have to worry about getting in my way, not the other way around.

A lot of cyclists have this weird idea that they're some kind of impoverished, persecuted sect of humanity and all. I get it, cycling in the city is really dangerous, there are a lot of mad bastards on the roads, and it's probably pretty terrifying, but that doesn't give you the right to put my safety as a pedestrian at risk.

  9. You know something? I'm genuinely excited and feeling pretty positive about the new season. I haven't been able to say that (without lying) in the longest time. I've come to accept that I was probably wrong about Schteve's football/tactics, and his interviews thus far have been very, very encouraging. He's brought in what looks like a great little coaching team (Cathro <3), and it sounds like we're gonna keep it on the deck a lot more this season. The signings have been good so far, and while I'd like another two or three, the squad looks a lot fuller.

Of course, this'll all evaporate when we line-up in a flat 4-4-2 with Williamson, Gouffran and Obertan on the first day of the season and get piped 3-0, but whatevs.
