  1. All I've really read recently is a few short stories by Thomas Mann. They are all fairly similar thematically, and generally somewhat depressing with regards to a main character who disintegrates through failure to combine properly with the opposite sex. I'll outline the plot of Little Herr Friedemann to give you an idea:

Baby is dropped on head at birth

Child is therefore physically deformed; very small and hunchbacked

Child falls in love with girl but sees her kissing other boy

Child is hurt and vows never to love again and devote life to self-improvement

Child grows into clever man of fine tastes in literature, music etc

Man is well known and respected in community despite deformity

Deformed Man falls in love with beautiful woman, despite conscience and much agonising

Beautiful woman professes love for deformed man

Deformed man offers a similar proclamation back

Beautiful woman calls deformed man an ugly little bastard and runs off giggling

    Deformed man drowns himself

That doesn't sound very happy. Poor deformed hunchback.

I'm going to find a poetry book to look at cause I can't concentrate on reading books properly some days. Mind doesn't work.

  2. This isn't in any order at all cause then it would take even longer to make the list.

    • Party Monster It has the kid from home alone in it. Theres a good giant talking rat scene. It's a true story about a murder in America around the time of the club kids scene.
    • The Fountain Probably the most beautiful film I've ever seen. Really sad though. Almost unbearably sad. I still don't really understand whats going on in it.
    • Pi It was between this and Requiem For A Dream...I went for Pi over that because it makes me feel happy. Requiem For A Dream makes me feel a bit ill. But I like it too.
    • Sylvia It's about Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. Daniel Craig and Gwyneth Paltrow are really good in it.
    • Delicatessen It's already been mentioned by KimyReizeger...but I am putting it in my list of favourite films. I much prefer it to Amelie. Maybe just because it has a frog man in it. And a butcher who sometimes uses his tenants as meat. It has a good feel.
    • The Wisdom of Crocodiles The name of this film changed to Immortality (for...the American viewers I guess...) It's sort of a vampire film with Jude Law in it, but more interesting than it sounds.
    • Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas It's fun. It makes me want to drive around America on drugs.
    • Spirited Away It's just good. No-Face and soot balls.
    • The Neverending Story I watched it when I was younger and I still really like it. Scared of the wolf and the nothing. It's cheesy but in a good way.
    • There Will Be Blood I went to see it at the cinema and it was amazing. It has the best ending of any film I've seen. The music is also great.
    • The Fifth Element I've seen this film more than any other film and I still like it. Maybe thats why it's on my list.
    • Starship Troopers Probably the only proper comedy I have on this list. Makes me laugh lots. The plot is terrible and the acting is terrible and the special effects are suspicious. But it has giant alien bugs!
    • Mulholland Drive The guy that jumps out. I hate that guy that jumps out.

Okay, so that's more than ten films, but I figured if anyone's going to bother to read through ten then they're going to bother to read through thirteen. That or they won't bother to read through any of them.

I might add more if I remember more.

  3. I've started re-reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath at work.

    That book is good.

I'm reading 'Valis' by Philip K. Dick. It's funny but a bit strange because it switches between first person and third person. And they're both the same person. The guys a bit mad I think.

  4. Nightclubs are for dancing, not for sitting.

I think thats the problem. Pushing to get to the bar, being crowded in with the possibility of having to touch strangers, not getting to sit down, loudness/overbearing music and dancing are all hideous things to me. I also found there was a slight creepy atmosphere in Exodus.

Perhaps avoiding the nightclubs would be best.

    :music:

  5. my point is that if you want a bunch of people's opinions on a local service, feel free to post a thread. if you want a direct and straightforward answer about a local service which could be provided within seconds by phoning that service, fucking phone them.

    Example 1.

"Does anybody know how late Rustico restaurant takes bookings on a Thursday evening?"

Wrong. Waste of bandwidth, potentially inaccurate answers. Fucking phone them and find out.

    Example 2.

"Has anybody been to Rustico restaurant? I was thinking of going there with my girlfriend and wondered if it was any good"

Completely acceptable. A great way of getting people's collective opinions on a local product or service.

It makes sense what you're saying...but it's an open message board and really, if people want to start a thread asking something which you think may be a waste then they can. It's general discussion.

Getting aggressive about it is a bit unnecessary and will probably just lead to people being aggressive back. Which doesn't get anyone anywhere. Except mass aggravation. Just...don't look at the thread? Then you don't have to be bothered by it, and other people who want to discuss things that may be pointless (and easier solved by a phone call) can do so if they wish.

You can't decide what people should post, it's not up to you. No offense meant or anything.

  6. I saw that baby seagull aswell. I was hoping maybe the mother would come back or something?

If not, I'm gonna adopt him.

    !

If the seagull mum doesn't take him back, we're stealing him!!! :D We could train him to be like Kehaar from Watership Down and he would befriend rabbits.

I'm talking rats from the sewers. Not a domesticated rat that goes a bit loopy on it's wheel in it's cage.

I used to have two rats so I don't mind them, but doesn't mean I like those tinky bastards from the depths below.

I wouldn't want a wild rat as a pet...they definitely aren't anything like domesticated rats (I've seen some really big wild rats before and they were a bit scary), but I do still like them. =)

  7. In my cupboard theres a few bottles of Corona, bottles of Stella, a bottle of Champagne and some Blue Curacao which is an orange liqueur. Never understood how an orange liqueur ended up blue.

I also have a bottle of chocolate red wine. But I'm not planning on drinking it (sounds disgusting)...just bought it for the nice bottle.

Theres red/white/rose wine in the wine rack in my house. And gin, vodka, Grand Marnier, Angostura Bitters, Irish Country Cream, sherry and whiskey in the drinks cabinet. And some Grenadine! Which isn't alcoholic but it is good. And it has a fish on the bottle.

  8. What is a Vanilla Chai Latte, I'm confused because Chai is tea, and the mere thought of a mixed tea/coffee combo is enough to summon St. Satan himself.

Hint, have 'special' coffee, its the best.

I get the vanilla chai latte from Books & Beans...not too sure how they make it but I promise it tastes good. It tastes really similar to a cinnamon latte, but smells a lot like chai tea. Maybe they use the same kinda spices from chai tea.

'Special' coffee? What makes it special? ?(

  9. I really like coffee but it makes me sick if I drink too much.

I can just about drink one vanilla chai latte/cinnamon latte without getting too nauseous.

'Ere, how overpriced is coffee on the high street? I don't know why I always buy it; aint a patch on my homebrew with cream.

Haha cream in coffee sounds a bit wrong!
