  1. They've been showing a picture of Al-Zarqawi's body on the news to prove that he is indeed dead.

    Lovely.

So it is OK to show the dead bodies of Zarqawi and the Hussein brothers, but if Al Jazeera show a dead soldier then they are dragged over hot coals?

In any case, Zarqawi was hated by the head folk at Al Qaeda because his targets were indiscriminate. I think that there is a real danger that his death could see the insurgency take on a more targeted approach against servicemen and law enforcement, and that would be very damaging.

Of course it may be a turning point in the right direction, but they said that when Hussein's sons were killed, when Saddam was captured, when the Iraqi elections were held, when the government was formed, and now as well. So excuse me while I don't hold my breath.

  2. people who allow Michael Moore to dictate their beliefs are as shallow as those who allow Bush and Blair to do so as well.

I disagree vehemently with the war on Iraq, but not because Michael Moore tells me I should. I disagree because any intelligent individual could see thta it was a load of bollocks.

Sure, Saddam Hussein was a nasty shit of a dictator, but then if that was really our motive, why was Tony Blair offering him the chance to remain in power if he gave up his (non-existent) WMD? Removal of Saddam only became the rationale when the Bush/Blair team realised that they were going to end up in deep shit.

Frankly this law-suit reeks of the usual US litigous "I'll sue your ass" bullshit. The guy doesn't have a case, and frankly his wife can get to fuck as well.

It is a shining beacon of democracy is it not, where you can sue whoever you want for however much you want.

And daveofficer is correct, Moore can use NBC footage as much as, and in whatever way, he likes as long as he has THEIR permission. If he interviewed the soldier direct then there would be a case, but he didn't and so there is no case to answer.

If the judge is a Republican though, then Moore is fucked.

  3. right im moving in june-july time

she's going on holiday from 29th-22nd of may-june.

so i thought oo means rhiannon and laura can finally come visit without her being all pissed off.

but no. ive not even mentioend they may come visit and i get a letter through the post saying "You may eb aware that Anne will be on holiday and therefore away from the flat for most of June. We just want to ensure that you udnerstand that no visitors are allowed to stay at the flat during this period' date=' with the exception of course of your parents, if they wish to do so"

    why?????

yet she can have her bf to stay when she isnt even here. and im meant to be ok with that.

does anyone know, will this letter be legally binding in any way? my lease doesnt say i have to ask for people to stay.

my mum has called up to complain and apparently my flat mate in comfortable leaving me alone in the flat incase my friends trash the place.[/quote']

I would suggest that you watch Single White Female and then realise that it isn't really that bad...

  4. Ah' date=' of course, and this map of the catchment areas clearly backs your argument up.

    [img']http://www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/files/2/4/5/CATCHMENTAREA.jpg

Wow, look at the way that the catchment area snakes in and out of upmarket areas, skilfully avoiding certain areas and leaving them for Harlaw. I mean it's not like it's just a big rectangle around Grammar, is it?

In other news, according to Thomas Banacek, the Grammar head teacher was spotted on the grassy knoll in Dallas in November 1963.

Please, it was the Deputy Head.

Now if you will excuse me, my tinfoil hat needs to be repaired.

  5. A lot of good points' date=' but how the hell is Grammar "a private school with public funding to all intents and purposes"?

BTW I didn't go to Grammar, I went to Cults. But by your rationale that's probably "a private school with public funding to all intents and purposes" as well I suppose.[/quote']

If you look at the way the catchment areas have been drawn up, it is interesting how Grammar's manages to skilfully avoid certain areas and leaves them for Harlaw, in spite of it making little sense to do so...

  6. I realise that most of the people who post here are middle class tools who probably went to Gordons or Grammar (a private school with public funding to all intents and purposes) but perhaps a visit to Logie, or Sandilands, or Cummings Park would soon let you see that this city of ours has more than its fair share of deprivation.

It also has more than its fair share of social problems, so I fail to see what the benefit of ripping it out of other areas is.

  7. No but what you do after drinking that 10 pints might have very serious consequences for me - It makes no difference what we do to ourselves but as drinkers' date=' we are several orders of magnitude more likley to injure/damage someone else than [b']any smoker.

    Nonsense.

Any individual has the capacity for violence, regardless of alcohol intake.

It is impossible to contribute to passive smoking if you don't smoke.

The two are simply not comparable.

  8. Exactly! :)

From the point of view taken by the folk who framed this leglislation' date=' even the worst case (unproven) scenario for harm from smoking [b']pales into complete & utter insignificance compared alcohol.

I think the difference is that me drinking ten pints of lager isn't going to get you pissed.
