  1. If I remember correctly' date=' Wishbone Ash use Matamp live.[/quote']

Yup your right, they were one of the first bands to tour with matamps way back in the day. They strayed away from them a while ago but had 2 custom built ones made for last years tour! They are playing the lemon tree next month 28th i think. Im gonna go along see if they are still using the Matamps but im not sure if they will as there was a competition last year to win one of their tour amps (i didnt win boo hoo). Should be an AWESOME night tho!

  2. very nice....

    what's in the cab?

Its a 2x12 with Hot100's, i have a custom (not matamp) 2x10 with vintage 30's which also sounds vovely, and i can use them both in a monster stack hehe.

Yea i think i might have to take it to Captain Toms to give it a good play, have friends parents who still live out near Alford (hehe yea i came from there well Strathdon to be truthful) and his dad plays bass so we go out their and crank the amps!

  3. well my Matamp just arrived at work, had a little shot to see if it was all working and it does! will get some pics up soon.

Only thing is they made 2 mistakes with the asthetics of the amp that they are going to fix!

    - wrong logo so they are making and sending me a new faceplate

    - wrong speaker cloth so they are picking up the amp fixing it and sending it back!

its a pitty but im not too bother i have a spare cab so can still play it and id rather have it the way i want it. It does look awsome tho! hehe ill get pics before and after fix!

  4. very true but as expected it would cost money, not sure how much tho.

I went down to the Factory on the 5th Aug and i would recommend it to anyone even if you arnt able to buy one! They will still be very happy for anyone to visit and are some of the nicest people ive met!

it is like a 6hr drive tho, the factory is in Metham, Yorkshire, inbetween Manchester and Leeds!

  5. i hate when u order somthng off the net and it takes fucking ages. like my mate was buying a laney acoustic amp from gak he wait a month and it never came he phoned them up and they said it would be another 3 weeks so he cancled his order.

a Matamp isnt really an "order off the net" thing, i mean you could just email or phone them and say i want one of those, but the thing with matamp is that the will change stuff around for you. They can voice the amps differently, have different power ratings, foot switch operations etc. Not to mention they make the cosmetics exacly like you want

    (all within reason of course)

so if you were to buy 2 second hand amp the same model they will likely be different.

  6. Wh/where is this Andi guy...what is so special about the cables?

    cheers

Asked on the Matamp forum what cables people were using and a few suggested Andi' date=' there is a website [url']www.monkeyfx.co.uk.

for the speaker cable Andi said "I've found something idea - 99.999% pure oxygen free copper, 315 strands of 0.12mm, PVC sheath"

for the guitar lead i got him to make me up "Klotz La Grange with one straight Neutrik Silent Switch Jack at one end and just a standard straight jack at the other end"

thought since i was getting an AWESOME amp setup i should get some good Leads also

  7. ok so the Matamp is arriving next week and wont be using the marshall anymore so need to sell it. I will accept 200 for it any takers?

The cab is also still for sale but i can use it with the Matamp and want a bit more for it!

  8. If you are planning on selling one of your vox's' date=' dont change a thing!!!

Refinishing a 40 year old amp will result in less for you. The more stock and original an amp is the better, even if it looks dog rough.[/quote']

I totally agree with that, what i ment to say earlier is "that if people wanted it looking brand spanking new they will likely preffer to get it done themselfs by someone they know or trust, i would anyway" but reading back i actually typed a load of rubbish. I do do that alot duh o_O

  9. Whose been doing his homework then?;)

I think you have made a wise choice.

haha yea ive been floating arounf the Matamp forum for about a year now reading into all the amps etc' date=' also Peter Green biographer Martin Celmins wote a book all about the history of the company, which is an interesting read and isnt all about Matamp, info on all the main companies, Orange, Vox, Marshal etc etc.

    available on ebay

  10. forgot to add, the thing with the 1224 is the versatility that the amp actually has, the main feature that this amp offers id the valve switching, you can run the amp in different ways

    1 valve, class A

    2 valves, class A

    2 valves, class AB

    4 valves, class AB

It also has Triode/Pentode and Hard/Soft power switching which gives 4 power levels, making a total of 16 possible combinations.

but most Matamp amplifiers are completely unique to their owner and there are many different versions of the amps!

mmm think i should be on the pay roll for Matamp

  11. Matamp has been at the forefront of British amp design since the 40's, the first Oranges built were actaully Matamps but sold by Cliff Cooper (i think) in a shop in London called Orange, hense the name. But after a few years the union broke and he started just making Orange amps!

Matamp have a number of different amp that can cover any application. Matamp also build everything in one small workshop in Maltham, Huddersfield. I took a trip to the factory this month and its well worth a visit even if your not buying one!

Ive just ordered a 1224 and 2x12, they have customised the amp to the exact way i wanted it, that included power (upped to 50watt, matmap rate their amps VERY conservidaly and at clean power, so overdrive is higher) they also compleatly style your amp/cab how you want it, any design on the faceplate, also the vinyl etc.

Also alot of the other companies contract Matamp to build there equipment for their more famous users, such companies as Ashdown, Orange, Hiwatt etc.

Take a look around the website and the forum and you will understand what an outstanding company and service the offer!!!
