  1. Recent weird dream:

Robbing a bank which the only access to was under a lift in a tube station.

My accomplice was Ben affleck. We had disguises too, he dressed as a woman and I had a Ben affleck disguise.

The security guard at the bank was Lawrence Fishburne

    Fucking citalopram.

  2. Would people be more likely to believe in God if we found out it/he wasn't sentient?

Imagine God as some kind of Universe creating machine, kind of like a photocopier spewing out universes because that's all it can do.

Create Universe, Uncreate Universe, Create Universe, Uncreate Universe.

If only science could prove God was a non-sentient creation machine I think people would have no need to 'worship' it/him.

.... after all, you don't worship your photocopier.

    That's an interesting thought!

Although I do worship my photocopier....when it works.

  3. Minority Report anyone?

One of the hack has been referred to as the "minority report hack". I'm looking forward to full win7 integration. Not sure if anyone saw the pc built into a desk that ms did a while back. It's kind of like a desktop version of that.

  4. the kinect was hacked something like 3 hours after it was officicially released in Europe.

i'm looking for help with this guide: Getting Started Windows - OpenKinect

and getting FAAST working ( Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST) )

i've managed to install the drivers on my pc but i'm having trouble compiling anything from the above wiki or getting any demo software to run (i'm assuming because i dont have any of the correct .dll files in the system.32 folder as i havent been able to get the build to run properly?)

i'm way out of my depth, i know very little about programming especially in this language.

if anyone thinks they can help please give me a shout.

microsoft were intially pissed off about the whole thing but quickly changed their mind when they realised there was money to be made. they are rumoured to release official drivers and SDK in the near future but i think the homebrew scene will be infinitely more interesting. i've already seen someone running max payne on the PC using the kinect and the wii remote in tandem and that looks 1000 times better than any offical wii or kinect game.

mods: MS have now said there will be no recourse for any kinect hacking, i've had previous hacking threads deleted but since M$ are now on board with this i'm hoping you let this one fly.

  5. After reading through some of the above links I started thinking that religion might be easier to understand. I then attempted Hinduism for about fifteen minutes and now I'm just all messed up. I'm just going to stick to football for a while. Laterz.

i find football just as hard to understand but each to their own! its a religion in itself to some

  6. Our whole universe could be inside some gigantic beings big bucket !! who knows?

...but then..... who created that being, and his universe, and then who...... ad infinitum !

I have a friend who has this theory that our galaxy is just an atom. I think it was flourine but that is beside the point.

I'm getting near the end if this Jesus camp movie and it is truly frightening and sickening.

  7. Your point definitely precludes the existence of a creator/architect, but the reasoning must be wrong somehow, who/what created the chemicals, genes, time, the universe, for that matter, matter/anti-matter, even the big bang or nothingness/emptyspace....everything/anything ?

These things didn't just appear on their own!

    an analogy :

Take all the components for a watch (or a typewriter), place them in a bucket, stir them for (any length of time) 1000 or so years...... and they STILL would not assemble of transform into a working watch/typewriter...... there HAS to be some kind of creator... imho

God/Creator is a mind-fuck.... so don't fuck up your mind worrying about it !

That would be okay if the universe was as simple as a watch in a bucket.

  8. If you were a fan of the god delusion I'm certain you'd be a fan of this:

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. Bill Maher's Religulous

I'm watching "Jesus camp" as we speak and if I didn't think religion could be harmful before then I certainly would think so now. If you've seen it, the scene in the bowling alley anyone? When the little girl prays for a strike then tells a random woman that the lord told her to approach her and tell her that has special plans for her. That in itself is creepy enough but when her dad says to her "way to be obedient rachel" made me want to puke.

  9. what I mean is that the basic rules of our universe are unbalanced, and had they not been our universe possibly couldn't support life, planetary systems or even matter as we know it jim. Scientists still can't explain why gravitational force is so much weaker than the strong and weak nuclear forces or electromagnetic forces. These rules were likely set at inception and haven't changed. So, great architect or infinite universes, both require faith as we simply don't know.

    higgs boson wherefore art though

  10. The whole God is a rumour argument doesn't sway me at all. It comes down to the incredible fact of our existence, against all odds. Perhaps we are a spectacular, random aberration in a multiverse full of fail but only theory supports this idea, nothing that can be proven through observation, yet.

Even if our universe is the only universe don't you think by the sheer scale and number of possible chemical interactions (etc) that life was pretty much inevitable? After billions of years surely there had to be more than just rocks and water

  11. So I guess Hitler was one too.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

From mein kampf: "... I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews. I am doing the Lord's work." Years later, when in power, he quoted those same words in a Reichstag speech in 1938.

Three years later he informed General Gerhart Engel: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so." He never left the church, and the church never left him. Many books were banned by his church, but his miserable Mien Kampf never appeared on the Index of Forbidden Books.

Knowing is half the battle. I try not to deal in guess work.

  12. If you ask me (noone did, but fuck you I'm having my say) then anyone who would call themselves an 'anti-theist' gives up the right to complain about the pious ramming religion down the throats of others...

If you don't believe and don't want to believe then fine but as soon as you start actively trying to convert the religious you open yourself up to the same shit IMHO.

I love a religious debate as much as the next guy mind, but after a while it just boils down to the same stalemate...

    xx

I'm not trying to convert anyone.

Religion should just be made illegal. Fuck going after them individually, just get them all at once.

  13. I know, I was being a pedant (or similar).

According to my mate Wiki, Stefan Baumrin defines an "antitheist" as "one who actually espouses atheism and would try to convince theists of the error of their ways."

    Is this you?

    No no.

I'm far too lazy to be pro active like that.

The description I like is "one who believes religion is harmful to society as a whole".
