Well, I always hated The Strokes, because I hate rich white people, and I hate the fact that the only people that seem to find any success in music are those who can afford to buy it. It's well documented that they are all stinking rich brats, children of wealthy fashion types and art gallery owners.
Also I automatically hate any band that the NME likes. Plus, there's the whole 'fake vintage' thing in their style and sound (I remember reading that Julian Casablancas insisted on using that shitty Tandy mic through a 10w guitar amp in the recording sessions, which was then mic'd up with a 5k Neumann...fucking tool).
However, I did start to like dancing to them in Exodus when I was a little younger, and having checked the albums (first two, I think) I quite enjoy them. It's easy to hate copy-cat 'indie' music, and I do, but considering Is This It came out in 2001 or something, they were actually 'ahead of their time' in a sick way (plus, despite being ultimately derivative, can you name me any band in particular that they were obviously ripping off?).
Anyway, the real reason I dug up this thread is that I was in Halfords last night, and Casablancas' new single was being played by the saviour of music Zane Lowe, and it's fucking ace. But his album's not out until mid-October, and since I'm the last guy on the planet who has the resolve to 1. actually wait until records come out before 2. buying them (this is an ancient practice in which money is given to the proprietor of a record 'shop' in exchange for recorded goods or wares) I guess I'll just have to stay curious until then.
so do you like rich black people?
ridiculous comment

looking forward to this - not been at a non stressful gig for ages!
I cant f*cking wait, they toured a couple of months ago trying out their new stuff, went to three of that gigs and their new stuff is really strong.
What a great way to spend the night before Leeds festival

Saw the Ray Summers at Rock Ness, and despite being derivative as fuck, had something about them. Twisted Wheel might just tip me into "definite" status!
aye twisted wheel are a great live band, i'll be at leeds fest tho

CRAZY FROG SET TO BEAT COLDPLAY TO NUMBER ONE
COLDPLAY look likely to be beaten to the Number One spot this week by a song originally designed as a ringtone.
According to music retailer HMV, Crazy Frog's 'Axel F' is outselling Speed Of Sound by a 4 to 1 margin in their stores.
Chart expert Gennaro Castaldo said: "Music purists might not be too happy at the prospect of the Crazy Frog outselling Coldplay, but it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise when you consider its huge novelty appeal and the massive amount of exposure its currently getting.
Kids obviously find it cute and cool, but students and even office workers seem to be drawn to its rather kitsch, ironic appeal. The only real issue is whether the record label can press enough copies to keep up with the huge demand that we're seeing right now."

i totally agree with you. every time i hear that song with all the 'uh ohs' in it' date=' i can't help but picture them all at practice, writing that song, going 'yeah, totally, doing a bunch of uh ohs at the start of a song will be really catchy and great.' instead they just sound like a bunch of cunts.[/quote']
Maybe if they actually wrote the song then you could picture them doing that, but they never wrote it, its a cover from kate bush who i feel is quite talented.
If your gonna criticise someone, please know what your talking about

Kaiser Chiefs are just bloody annoying' date=' and deserve to be at the bottom of a very deep bargain bin. Bloc Party are basic student toss. They both suck in their own ways, but if forced to say which is worse, I'd say Bloc Party on the basis that they are going to be around longer, therefore need more of my hate concentrated into them than what the Kaiser Chiefs do, as they are a shite novelty band, and will fall into obscurity soon.[/quote']
ooh i like your originality, basic student toss, was that not what liam gallagher said last week in nme, could at least come up with something yourself if your gonna slag them off.
-
I think Bloc Partys album is the best ive heard this year, and paul they def don't sound anything like the strokes. I don't mind kaiser chiefs at all but as liam sed they probs are 'a bad blur'. For this pretty stupid argument then yes bloc party are better and far more talented. Can i just ask, if you do not like bloc party or kaiser chiefs then why post this thread in the first place?

The La's - Quality
Once again Rob, always the first with the news, well done again.
Think ill def go see the cribs now, they got a really good write up from their nme show last night.
-
They were selling returned tickets on the night, i think they had about 20, seen quite a few people over the moon coz they got a ticket for face value, touts were selling them for 200 each, rip off, i think ill buy the single tomorrow, ive heard eyeball tickler, its really good, has anyone heard the album, its great, i downloaded it, im still gonna buy the real copy tho.

The program never told me anything i never knew about pete, the only thing i learned was that the guy max has real issues. i dont believe his story aswell about his tape running out when he finally got the chance to speak to pete, bullshit, something obviously happened there. He tries to say he loves pete and adores him but if you cared about him so much you would never have sold that photos. Just shows that money talks
