  1. Skuzzlebut: Before you go any further our ancestors ate meat well before they had the concept of vegetarian or vegan, so please explain further why you think meat eating will become obsolete, I'd love to hear your argument, your move :)

for the record, i am not an advocate of veganism. we humans are omnivore: we can survive on vegetation or meat or both. i chose not to eat meat.

an essential part of our very early ancestors development was the consumption, not only of meat, but of brains... low grade sausages and pies apart, we dont eat brains anymore, we dont need to. we evolved.

i haven't eaten meat (practically fuck all) in 20 years. i dont need to. i am yet to hear any compelling argument as to why we need to eat meat. your move...

  2. Thanks for that, condescending vegetarian..

condescending? how do you work that out?

Hope you don't eat soya products though. The bulldozers clearing the rainforests ain't exactly the underdogs.

oh, here we go....the "you can't prove carrots dont have feelings" malarkey

face it, you enjoy eating the flesh of a (once) living animal, 'cause you think it tastes good, which is all well and good when you are completely remote from its suffering and plight. you could be forgiven for failing to recognise that half the shit in the meat counter of a super market had anything to do with an animal, until the quality control fails and you get a nice piece of meat with a cyst in it...

let me guess, you eat mat at least three times a week, but i bet you've never slaughtered an animal in your life.

  3. Not really, did a bit of research over the weekend and was surprised at what I found, that is all

And I don't think I ever mentioned anyone being or becoming Vegans, I am fully aware that this would be a ridiculous Ideology to have. But, I don't see why we can't use our advanced knowledge to save other living creatures suffering pain in order for us to survive

there is no need for us to eat living animals. in many respects meat is bad for us. i have been vegetarian for over 20 years and feel a lot better for it. meat consumption in the western world is reducing. in a few generations it may well be a thing of the past.

all this crap (for every animal you don't eat i'll eat three pish) is childish bollox. if these people were really so cock sure they should go and take an animal about their size and weight on a one to one basis, say a small wolf.... then we could see who would feast on who... the whole concept of eating another living being when the odds are stacked in our favour is nothing to be proud of.

    i share your sentiment

  4. Any brand of 6L6 and EL34 can be used as long as they are matched for a boogie. If you go to watford valves for example you just tell them you want them for a mesa and he will select them just like that.

nice one, never even occurred to me that a third party could perform the same selection.

If you just took any valve it might run too hot or cold

    yep was aware of that...

Mesa valves in my opinion are unreliable and quite muddy and fuzzy in tone and overpriced. They are actually just rebranded russian valves sold with the mesa logo at double the price (so i have heard)

again agreed. i heard they were chinease sold at four times the price, but hey that's the rumour mill.

I use svetlana winged C 6l6 and EL34 in my boogies, they are reliable and give the power section a nice warm crunch that doesn't lose any definition.

    ok

Heard a lot of good reports about mullards being excellent in the mark series, they are quite expensive though

i bought a set of mullards for my matamp a couple of years ago (el34) they were a tenner... now these "mullards" are made in russia by a company that supposedly bought the tooling for the mullards of old...

  5. enlighten me if you would... i thought you can only install Mesa Boogie 6l6's in a Boogie, the whole idea is that the valves are preselected and rebranded by Boogie that are matched to the bias point of their amps...

what is a Mullard Mesa/ Boogie Valve? (it's news to me)

i'm witting keich... i'll try again.

in my mesa, f-50, the manual instructs you to use only 6l6's (selected and rebranded by mesaB) which in turn means you are limited in what you can use for power valves, but also means you dont have to rebias...

so whats the score with the markIV re power valves and rebiasing?

    cheers

    (the other guy)

  6. In truly Immaculate condition with all new valves (Mullards-Mesa/Boogie). Simulclass switch. Can be used with 4 6L6's or two 6L6's and two EL34's.

Original EV speaker reconed 6 months ago by EV.

Open to realistic offers and may do a px deal for a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Flight case to fit sold separately.

Also for sale, Mesa Engineering Thiele cab loaded with original Black Shadow 1x12 C90. New condition with cover.

enlighten me if you would... i thought you can only install Mesa Boogie 6l6's in a Boogie, the whole idea is that the valves are preselected and rebranded by Boogie that are matched to the bias point of their amps...

what is a Mullard Mesa/ Boogie Valve? (it's news to me)

  7. Not been for years! It used to be a giggle.

It was an opportunity for armchair bikers to blow the dust off their garage-dwelling machines.

My enduring memory of the GMC is parking my bike next to a year-old Ducati 916 owned by some Dainese leather-clad fatboy who was holding court with some other bikers. He was gobshiting about all the expensive after-market performance mods he'd had fitted. I looked over at his odometer (the bike was running) and it had 86 miles on it.

86 miles in one year? - it kinda sums up the bike scene over the last 20 years. Full of technocrats and geeks who don't actually ride their fucking bikes.

    The Moped race was hilarious.

so what did you/ do you ride?

86 miles?! another 400 odd and it might be just about run in... all the aftermarket stuff (i presume the usual suspects K&N filters, carbon fibre pipes etc would have blown his warranty to pieces and not done his motor any favours. for the record for the first few hundred miles you shouldn't do more than 55 mph (that's what the little red line on his speedo id for)

i bought my duc in 93, i didnt use it for 6 years, i have just over 10k on it

    i'll get me coat...

  8. i've been to this a few times. its a great day out, especially - obviously - if you are in any way into bikes.

they used to have "moped mahem" this is where team of three odd bikers would enter a 50cc bike into a 50 -100 entrant bike race.

funny as fuck, you had guys that normally drive 100bhp+ super bikes, racing in their one peice race suits on 50cc step throughs (complete with basket on the handle bars and the motor tuned so tight you'd be lucky if it had a 30 minute half life...)

    good call slutbags....

  9. I thought they might have gone for Bourdais.

    why do you say that?

he rarely impressed anybody over the last two years... I hate to say it but drivers who haven't served their early days in europe, and have spent in US/ canada tend to be pretty crap at motorsport. where as drivers who have had unspectacular careers in f1 who move to the US tend to become big names in US motor sport

  10. Yeah i think thats the deal, jan... just boys and there toys, how weak would you think the signal be once it got to the amp

don't think it would be weak, just wouldn't contain much of the original signal... even if all the effects were bypassed/ off, bet it would still sound crap..

  11. 8 replies and no mention of Carmines on Union Terrace?

Something ridiculous like 4.50 gets you a 2 course meal and coffee.

The first course is inevitably Ministrone soup, which is better than any other that I have ever tasted.

The pizza/pasta portions on offer as mains are huge, simple and delicious. Probably the most authentic/traditional 'italian' menu in the city. Don't forget to splash out on some garlic bread too though :)

    2nded,

    damn nice cappuccino to boot...

  12. Anyone else compete in this today? How'd you fare?

    21KM/13 Miles:

    23rd/128 Runners - 1 Hour 32 Mins 18 Secs

Awesome route, Decent weather, Great food afterwards :)

13.7km/hr for 1 and a 1/2 hours, good time! well done...

not only did i not even hear of it, i am in dyce today and didn't even notice it...

when was it, time wise? roughly what was the route?

  13. surely Denmark St. is the place to go? I think it's all guitar shops is it not?

hasn't been a true statement for well over a decade... all of denmark street is owned by the same man. still worth a visit though.

peter cooks is a good call, also digital village in romford (the romford site is their warehose/ flagship) from the centre of london it is a tube and train ride followed by a 20 min walk/ or 6 quid taxi... shit load of stock though...

  14. Thanks for the offer, but they're at opposite extremes.

The Mexican's no use, (used previously), & the rails are too good. Standard rod magnets are the kind Im looking for, but thanks again.

i had a look last night, i got things a little wrong, in the second set the neck pick up is a jb jr.... 'zat help any? again not standard rod magnets, but possibly somewhere between the rails and the mex...

  15. i have the following in white:

    - mexican strat full set

    and the following in black:

    - Seymour duncan set in a scratch plate with jack sockets, vol and tone pots all prewired, pickups are cool rails (neck), quarter pounder (middle) and hot rails in the bridge.

you are welcome to try out either set...

  16. So KISS fans.....

I've been getting into a bit of Kiss recently and fancy picking up some of their albums. Thing is they have about a billion albums + compliations + live albums and I don't know which ones are good. I'm definitely thinking more 70s "Love Gun" Kiss rather than 80s "Crazy Crazy Nights" Kiss. Which albums should I buy? Is everything post Ace Frehley and Peter Criss quitting in 1982 really shit? What about the live reunion albums?

Also, wtf are the Ace Frehley / Gene Simmons / Paul Stanley / Peter Criss albums from 1978 that are on Spotify? Are they solo albums or something? If so, are they any good?

There's just so much I can't possibly listen to it all to make a decision, so if anyone would care to give me a bit of advice I'd appreciate it, ta.

i went through a kiss phase in the early 80's... i've got a bunch of so called "limited edition" coloured vinyl imports from the far east - japan in particular was lapping this stuff up at this time...

i digress... "kiss alive" is pretty good for a live album as i recall,"dynasty" is more pop rock, with a fair amount of stuff being written by non kiss members... both albums have the pete criss, gene simmons, paul stanley, ace frehley line up... both albums have their moments. there's a pile of it on napster if that helps...

tbh it hasn't aged particularly well, but like i say they have their moments...

  17. Just as they are not obliged to serve you alcohol or tobacco without your Id' or allow you into the store in some cases.

which i am well aware of. the important point here is that the guard was operating outwith his remit* by asking for id from a person who was simply browsing....

Point A: This is a reasonable enough request

Point B: The position part is reasonable as is a surname however they have the right to refuse this. The only information about the guard you are entitled to is their SIA License number.

with regards to point B, by challenging the guard the recipient of the id request is redressing the balance power, a groovy hat does not necessarily entitle the wearer to unlimited (or any) authority

i have no idea what an SIA number is... care to enlighten me...

Point C: This seems like it would be common sense if you are switched on, challenge 21? Challenge 25?

now this is where i may well be out of touch... it's been a good while since i got id'd for booze, and a hell of a long time since i was 21 or 25

I'm pretty sure that neither Sainsburys or the guard would care if you bought alcohol elsewhere, generally difficult customers aren't shown as much sympathy or understanding as those who are respectful of the fact that they have a job to do which may or may not include Id'ing.

i have no problem with stores being responsible and ensuring they sell alcohol to people of what is deemed to be an appropriate age, however, the guard asking for id from someone simply browsing, which is the crux of the initial post, sounds to me like he was behaving beyond his remit, his comments after the lass complied with his request sound more than a little unprofessional

Spot on but you seem to fail to grasp that sometimes you have to hand over Id' if you want something. The shop owner doesn't want to lose their licence by serving someone who 'refuses' to hand over their Id' because they 'know their rights'.

nope, i didn't fail to grasp this elementary concept. i dont believe any store is going to lose their license because they failed to demand id from someone browsing in the booze aisle.

thanks for the negative rep and the "your post is complete bollocks" from what i can see you have pretty much agreed with everything i have said...

They are allowed to ID you whilst browsing, i challenged a worker once in Asda because he ID'd me when i was just walking through the drinks isle to get to the bakery bit. Bit me in the fucking ass. I even checked when i got into Morrisons where i work, they told me they were allowed to.

you are missing the point i think....

i can ask to see your id, as can pretty much anybody, the point is that you are not obliged to present it to me, or for that matter a security guard (like i said an employee of a company, not a civil servant).

*if there is a formal policy now of security guards being instructed to id people for browsing (or even passing through) the alcohol aisle, in my view, this is pretty intrusive, i would simply not buy my booze (or any other groceries for that matter) from such an establishment.

if there is trully a government directive advising or legitimising such actions i'd be more than a little suprised...

your personal details are a precious commodity. look after them

  18. Damn Security guard in Sainsburys Garthdee today ... I was casually looking at the drinks shelf cos I need drink for tomorrow night when the security guard approached me and asked whether I was on my own or in a group. He then asked for my ID and starting questioning how old I was from it, peered at my photo as if it was fake - okay it was taken 6 years ago, I was standing there going "That IS my ID, that IS me in the photo - I'm 23, I've got my University graduation this Thursday"

He then turned round and said "I know that ID is genuine but you don't look 23, you look 12"

GRRRRR. So not amused! What was worse when I bought my drink, I got carded by a guy who was clearly underage! Not impressed, defo not going back!

a sainsbury security guard is not a civil servant, he/ she is an employee of a private company. you are not obliged to show him your id.

i'd ask him a. why he wants it, b.ask his name and position in the company, c. under what instructions/ pcompany procedures is he asking for it... finally i might tell him/ her politely to fuck off.... (ie i wouldn't surrender it to him, and buy my booze else where... their loss of custom)

not enough people in the uk know their rights.... it is your responsibility to know yours. pretty much only customs officials, immagration and the police can demand to see your id...
