  4. Occasional Monsters on DVD!

Occasional Monsters is now officially available on DVD.

If you like computers, you can go here and get yourself a copy for just 9 (that DOES include postage and packaging). That way you don't have to deal with the hardship of having to walk somewhere within a certain timeframe.

If you like shops, it's also available from One-Up.

    The DVD features:

    - Out-takes!

    - Deleted scenes!

    - Theatrical trailer!

    - Directors' commentary!

    - Production stills!

    Plus some pretty cool artwork.

More details available from www.occasionalmonsters.co.uk and www.donsidepictures.co.uk.

    Thanks.

  5. I'm wondering if it'll be okay to come down to the showing later. I forgot that i had my hair cut appointment at 11:30am, but I can toodle down afterwards to catch the rest of the film. Do you think the punks at the Belmont will let me in?

Probably. You could argue that you paid to see the whole film two months ago & were deprived of the ending, so now they owe you. Failing that, push someone over and run into the darkened cinema. They'll never find you. Until the film ends and you have to leave, that is.

  6. It's being screened twice in one day, this Sat 6th December: 11.30am at the Belmont, 11.30pm at the Cameo Picturehouse in Edinburgh.

DVDs will also be available from that day, so if you don't have the power to get up & walk to a cinema in time for 11.30am then you could always go to www.donsidepictures.co.uk at any time you like (from Saturday) and buy the film from there.

  7. Thanks for the support! We were very pleased with how many people turned up & how well the film seemed to go down with everyone.

Our apologies for the technical problems. We aim to arrange a second showing in Aberdeen sometime in the next two months, and we guarantee the whole film will be shown at that time.

High-quality DVDs will also be appearing sometime before the end of the year. Watch this space: Donside Pictures or this one Occasional Monsters

    Thanks again.

  8. Ppl like colonopenbracket irritate me because such people already have a dated concept of what music is, - its as if suddenly they have discovered how to use a computar to maek some oldskool BLEEPZ etc. and prancing around on stage with disconnected keyboards pretending to play along with it pretty much demonstrates what these ppl are all about.

I agree that that sort of thing is extremely lame, but then I don't think that's necessarily representative of 8bit music in general. Most 8bit acts I'm aware of (individuals, mostly) program music for a certain platform, take the Game Boy / NES / whatever on stage & then play the music through it. Of course, this mainly just involves hitting start and letting it run its course, not much in the way of real 'performance', but that seems to me to be very far away from the shitty ironic posturing described above.

I suppose what I'm getting at is, is the above also considered deplorable? And if so, why?

  9. yeah...that's really strange, isn't it?

cos, no one made "indie" records after the stone roses recorded their first lp.

and no one made metal lp's after black sabbath

    ...and no one made.....

    you get the idea.

I can't tell if that's a dig at my post, or if you're joining me in a making a dig at the original post.

I'm a bit confused by the anti-8bit sentiment in this thread. As I understand it, '8bit' commonly refers to music that is composed and performed on original outdated computer hardware, most often the Game Boy, NES or C64, taking into account the inherent limitations of each system and often trying to do something interesting with it, push said system to its limits, etc. I don't see that Triforce belt buckles / bad haircuts / prop keyboards necessarily come into it... or am I in the dark about a 'new' crop of pseudo-8bit acts?

  10. The 'Gigs & Events' entry for this show isn't all that eye-catching, so I thought I'd post a bit about it here:

Tonight, Thursday 21st June @ the Tunnels, in aid of a charity that all Blockbuster employees are compelled to support, see with your eyes:

    Eric Euan!

    Thundering Alt-Rock Titans Warp Reality

    Bill Ely & the Catnips!

Despicable Thug-Pop Assassins Bring the Noise

    Five Finger Discount!

Astounding DVD-core from the Depths of Nowhere

    kUDA the MC & Friends!

    Dark Agents of the Rapocalypse

As you can probably tell, this is pretty exciting. It will cost 3 for entry, doors will open at 8pm and the first band will be on at 8.30pm.

Proceeds go to Starlight Children's Foundation, which I think is dedicated to making the wishes of dying children come true.

    Do your best.
