She has been compared with artists like PJ Harvey, Suzanne Vega and Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays. Her first solo demo was recorded by Chris Thomson from The Bathers in 2001, and as a result she has gone on to support various artists including James Grant, Fish, Midge Ure, Duke Special, Frank Turner, Rose Kemp, Astrid Williamson, The Wrigley Sisters and many more. Previously she has performed with various bands including The Awkwards, Bad Karma Those Valentinos, The Love Spells, Elektra Spell, The Deviadas and Baby Karma. She was in the all female pop punk bands Medusa's Curse who supported The Hussy's at Tut's and appeared on BBC Upstaged and then went on to be called The Lady Medusa. She has performed at The Wizard festival and Kendal Calling in the acoustic stage/area. In 2011 Emma performed at The Tall Ships in Greenock on the Sugar Sheds stage and at L Fest. Emma also supported Julie Matthews at Carlisle Folk and Blues Club and more recently she supported Brigitte Aphrodite at the Edge Festival in Cabaret Voltaire.
