PANDA SU

2010 was a brilliant year for Fife based duo Panda Su, with them playing a string of festivals including Fence Collectives Homegame Festival for the second consecutive year, Secret Garden Party, Belladrum, Wickerman and Hinterland festival too. Their EP "Sticks & Bricks" brought in rave reviews across the country.

'The problem with myself is that I long to be someone else,' sings Fife songstress Panda Su. But on this evidence, recorded with the Beta Band's Steve Mason, she's doing very nicely indeed. At one point some children cheer loudly, which is surely the height of twee, and she and Steve close the curtains and settle down with a big bag of popcorn to enjoy watching home movies from their old-school 16mm movie camera. Blissful, no? ....Milo McLaughlin, Products of a Gaseous Brain

Shaws raw emotional honesty and blunt lyricism are framed with an impressive array of strange and wonderful instruments, most notably the percussion (from precariously balanced double xylophones to jumper-muted tom toms and heart-felt stamping). I got lost again she laments in the intimate, candle-clad setting of Pivo Pivo; no doubt the audience does too ... The Skinny (****)

Her sound veers from folksy canticle to chart-bopping ditty with schizophrenic regularity, marking Panda Su out as a cut above the vacuum-packed hoards of humdrum sonic tailchasers. She may be dishing out doe-eyed homages, but the part Scot, part Portuguese songstress's own star is quickly expanding into a sparkling constellation ... Under the Radar, The Scotsman

Panda Su is a Fife lass who creates an aura of mystery by painting her face to resemble our bamboo-munching chums. Sounding at times like a folkier Suzanne Vega, she plays a succession of endearing and original wee numbers, the highlight of which is Eric Is Dead, a deliciously slow-building chunk of dark pop ...The List (****)

This debut EP confirms Su and her cohorts as one of the most promising new bands around at the moment. The four songs on this recording are beguiling and haunting, catchy and unsettling in almost equal measures with an uncanny knack of worming their way into your psyche. Each song is a gentle, textured thing full of subtle flourishes and enchanting melodies topped off by Sus distinctive, lovely voice. There are elements of folk, electronica and pop in here, occasionally reminding me of the brilliant Cat Power but ultimately Panda Su have their own original and compelling sound ...Is This Music? (*****)

Panda Su takes her very self and illustrates it in her music like the vein charged maps of the world. All you have to do is take yourself on your own journey and you will find something in her music that will help you reach somewhere worthwhile ...Halina Rifai, Glasgow PodcART

And therein lies the beauty of Panda Su, a voice so strong singing fragile songs coupled with music that is deceptively simple. The recordings she has done with Steve Mason from the Beta Band are full of immediacy and an urgent yearning. Eric is Dead is a lush piece of pop music that deserves to beard at sun kissed festivals the world over ...Sean McCann, Glasgow PodcART

Witnessing their set you don't know whether to laugh or cry ... Matt Meade, Dunfermline Press

"After several intense, gorgeous shows, this debut EP confirms Su and her cohorts as one of the most promising new bands around at the moment." ... is this music?

If 2010 was anything to go by, i suggest you catch them now before these guys make it big!!

ESPERI

Esperi is Scottish multi-instrumentalist Chris Lee-Marr. His songs and indeed sounds are both thought provoking and incredibly uplifting. Having already supported the likes of KT Tunstall, Gomez, Johnny Flynn, Olof Arnolds and James Yorkston and being a regular at festivals like Wickerman, and T in the Park, Esperi is ready to take his wonderful music to a larger audience. His music ranges from acoustic storytelling to colourful electronica looping and combining different sounds with his acoustic guitar.

He uses a host of instruments from the conventional to the unusual including his signature rainbow-coloured bells, which he plays with his feet! He writes about his home, his dogs and his family. There are no airs or graces, he just writes about things as they are.

Chris delicate voice and honest songwriting is akin to Mike Kinsella (Owen, American Football) but with softer, lilting Scottish undertones. However, Esperi is more than simply an acoustic artist but rather someone very special, writing stories that paint musical pictures, creating wonderful images that will touch your very heart and soul.
