Guest Tam o' Shantie
Anyone got any tips on where to find some good classic hip hop records? I've been using hhv.de (hiphopvinyl.de) for a while now, and their prices are mostly reasonable and occasionally really good but certain 'classics' seem to be either missing entirely from their range or only in original pressings for like 30 quid. Furthermore, shipping isn't a negligable cost and once you add it all up it's not a particularly cheap way of increasing my collection.Where else has a good selection without being too pricey? I'm talking about stuff like Ironman, Tical, Liquid Swords and any of the early Wu Tang solo stuff, as well as the likes of Straight Outta Compton, It Takes A Nation Of Millions... etc.
Guest Giles Walker
You'll find that most of those records have been reissued and so should be reaonably straight forward to get, even through places like Hmv, virgin etc. Otherwise i would just check places like turntablelab, piccadilly reords and maybe ebay. You're best bet is to try to find small record dealers who operate on the internet, maybe not specialising in hip hop. I found with my time buying record collections that a lot of punks seem to have bought hip hop as the eighties rolled on and they always kept them in good condition.Old school hip hop is going to rocket up in price the same way funk and rare groove did because that is just the way it works i'm afraid. The ones you are after shouldn't be too hard to find i'm sure, as they are bonafide classics. You could just download them.....
Guest Tam o' Shantie
i'm trying to get into DJing and scratching though so i want the platters. yeah I'm surprised that there havent been more reissues of that lot as I cant ever see demand falling. Have often been tempted to place an order with turntablelab cos the prices are awesome and they've oftne got some pretty tasty looking picks that i wouldn't have been looking for otherwise - how are they for shipping times/costs? do you usually have to pay import tax on it too?
