The Lapse meet Defdump

are there any bassists, drummers, guitarists, singers and screamers out there whod be interested in forming a band?

i used to play in a band in luxembourg before i came to aberdeen, since then (almost 2 years ago) i have been recording stuff on my own under the name afurnishedsoul, which was a new and exciting experience at the time, but i am starting to feel a bit bored. i would like to play some live gigs and have a real band again.

what music would i like to play? in my former band, everyone was into a slightly different kind of music, so our music was a constant compromise between melodic punk, emo, ska, hardcore and post rock. it was cool because you would never know what was to come next, but now i would like to be in a band that has a more coherent sound. a sound that is both hopefull and utterly desperate at the same time. some people would call it emo, which is okay as long as you dont immediately think funeral for a friend, taking back sunday or any other of those shitty my-girlfriend-has-cheated-on-me-and-now-i-am-one-sad-motherfucker bands. were talking of the perfect mix of the lapses betrayal album or the van pelt, reizigers early records, sonic youths more melodic moments, the trippiness of tristeza, some mogwai explosions coupled with the dreamy moments of appleseed cast, outbursts of the likes of refused or standstill, desperate emocore moments la yaphet kotto, song of zarathustra or envy, intertwined with the fast-forward octave cord driven noise of kurt, ten volt shock and bluetip. sometimes instrumental, sometimes using field recordings or spoken word, sometimes using sung or screamed vocals.

this may sound like nothing new, its probably not gonna be, but thats not really the point. its about the music that makes me dance and forget and theres not enough of that particular kind of music in aberdeen, even though there are a lot of good bands playing other stuff.

i am a rhythm guitarist mainly, but i can play tunes (not solos) and i am a basic bass player (i cant do slapping though). i used to sing, but would like to leave that job to others at the moment. so i am looking for a drummer, a bassist and one, maybe two, guitarists plus a singer/screamer (no heavy metal stuff, proper hardcore voice, as in guilt, defdump, by the grace of god, song of z, refused, standstill, etc.). possibly someone who can do samples or occasional keyboard parts.

all this probably sounds very categorical, and in a way it probably is, but things can change along the way. its just to avoid having another band with 5 different music styles all compiled in one single live set. it would be best if everyone had kind of a similar idea of what this is gonna be about and we all had a common starting point at least. i did most of the flyers, artwork, website, booking, bladibla for my last band and i am willing to give all i have to a new band, but only when it gives me what i really need, i.e. a sound that i can identify with a 100 per cent.

the only problem i have is that i dont have an amp at the moment, but ill be able to sort that out soon.
