Hey guys, bit of a long shot but i'm looking to move on two limited edition royal blue Marshall 4x12 cabs. I bought these from my good friend about a year ago, and they're genuinely the best Marshall cabs I've ever played through. The only reason I'm trying to move them on is that I'm going to upgrade to either Orange or Matamp, so I need the funds.

I've done some research into these, and I found that these are almost certainly 30th anniversary edition cabs ( Marshall 30th Anniversary Cabs - Marshall Amp Forum ). They're fitted with Celestion GT-75 speakers, are mono (16 and 4 ohm) and stereo (8 ohm) switchable, and have 'special edition' badges at the bottom left hand corner of the speaker cloth.

As a musician who plays out of town shows regularly, these aren't in perfect condition but they still look and sound great. They've got a few tears in the tolex, but these are mainly on the back and I'm sure most nicks on the front could be repaired with glue.

I'm looking for 600 for the pair. Hit me with a PM if you want to make an offer.

I'm looking for a quick sale on a brand new and packaged 8 ohm Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. For those of you who know anything about amplifiers, you'll know that they're pretty much the industry standard speaker used in many high end cabinets and combos, such as Orange, Mesa and Blackstar just to name a few off the top of my head.

I bought the speaker as part of a pair that I planned on using in an empty cabinet I own, but got an amazing deal on an already loaded cab and so I never finished the project. I have already sold the other speaker to a buyer who said that a fresh speaker made a massive difference to the overall sound of his cab. If you have a cab with older or cheaper speakers in it, this will make a big difference to how your guitar will cut through the mix for a relatively small price tag.

I had a look on eBay and the going price is around 70-80 + around 10 delivery, so I'll take 65 for it, saving you around 20-25 on a brand new speaker. I live very centrally, so if you'd like to pick it up or meet somewhere in central Aberdeen that isn't a problem.

no idea, but i would guess around 2 years old maybe. i got it last year, and until 2 days ago didn't sound like it was in need of new tubes at all. you reckon that's what the problem is?

How long have the valves been in there for and do you use it hard (gig volume) often or have you in the past?

not sure how long the tubes have been in, but yeah it's cranked quite frequently. i had it set with the gain down very low and the volume high with the treble/middle/bass all at full (plexi style) on the clean channel when it went. i saw somewhere that if it goes out while set like like that could have something to do with the output transistor going?

If it's within 3 years old and you filled out the card that comes in the box then it is still under warranty and Marshall will fix it free of charge.

This is presuming you bought it new and that recently though

nah it's a 2006 one, so no chance of warranty.

i'm not even sure it's worth sending it away to get a full service/repair. the amount it would cost, i'd almost be as well get a new head - considering it's almost 5 years old so chances are something else is going to give sometime soon. i was just wondering if there was anybody who could even do some diagnostics and try to find out what the problem is without sending it half way across the country.

basically my marshall jcm 2000 conked out while i was playing yesterday. i've checked the ht fuse and the mains fuse, both are fine. i'm getting a very very small amount of sound through the speakers which makes me think that it could be the tubes - but i've had a look at them and they seem to be fine. i'm not too keen for taking it to bits and killing myself in the process of finding out what the problem is.

anybody know of anybody who might be able to have a look at it locally?

i'm in a pop punk hardcore band, and it's a doomed genre. have fun with it though.

The skint thing is what holds me back. I'm wanting another amp for "the marshall" sound and these have it nailed. A lot warmer than the 2000's which sound stupidly weak andthin in my opinion, but i've not got much to base that on.

yeah as the above comment said, the eq's are a little weird on the 2000's. it took me ages to get my head around why i wasn't getting the right sound from mine - ended up blaming my guitar/pedals/picks/strings/haircut for why it wasn't quite right. i've got my middle and bass boosted much higher than i usually would on an amp to compensate for them being unusually low when everything is set to 12. once you've got it sorted though, they're the best series of marshall by a long shot IMO.

but yeah, like hateevent said, the chances are that half the stuff on the pedal will be almost exactly the same as those on the line6 pedal and head. i'd advise thinking about what effects are really needed, and which effects are unneccesary. chances are you could pick up a couple of standalone boss pedals for cheaper than 100, which would actually sound better than the ones integrated into the multi-fx.

That's a bit subjective. It might be shite to you, but okay to others. For example, I've had two Fender Twins over the years and sold both because I didn't really like the sound. However, having said that, I'm now thinking of buying......yet another Fender Twin. That's the thing is it? We get/earn our money, and spend it on what we want and even sometimes what we think others want. I think I've wasted more money on gear that I thought would be cool to have and that others around me would go "wow!" I now buy what I want whether it's "cool" or not.

One of my favourite guitars is my Gibson Melodymaker. A guitar that none of you other North East music forum lover had the foresight to buy when Millers dropped it to under 300quid. It's the cheapest "named" guitar I have in my collection by a country mile.

I would also like to say this. The "shite" of today stands every chance of becoming the collectable classic of tomorrow. All it needs is a famous player to start using a piece of equipment, and whether it's deemed to have been good or shite in the past, it will now become the coolest thing to own. Of course this is just my opinion based on my own experiance of owning and playing guitars for over 30 years. I dread to think the ammount of gear that has passed through my grubby mitts over the years. Some good, some bad and some great, but I've never truely found any "shite" stuff, only stuff that other people don't like for one reason or another.

i couldn't agree with you more there. you're absolutely right about the pedal being down to personal opinion. however, by 'shite', i was referring to items which i can only imagine have been bought without any sort of foresight, and in this situation i know for certain that the postee of this thread will have rushed into a decision to blindly buy the pedal without actually taking the time to think: 'do i really need this?'

as an answer, i can make an informed guess of no to that question. as a result of a frankly embarassing youtube video i had the misfortune of experiencing a few months ago, i know that he is currently running a line6 multi-fx through a spider 75 watt head. these both have the capability to do almost exactly the same as the pedal that this thread is concerning. i would also make a guess that said user hasn't actually used the pedal for himself, as he would have realised that it essentially gives him yet another set of tones which he will tire of trying to make sound 'good' after another few months and realise that it is another 100 wasted. when i saw his thread on advice on tube amps i thought he had realised that purcheses such as the pedal concerned were not what he needed - but seemingly not.

i've thrown away so much money myself on sub-standard gear, and it really gets on my nerves to have some fucking moron 15 year old - who i know has had a 6505 and orange 4x12 bought for him - criticising those who actually work and have made the mistakes for themselves advising a fellow user on an item he is potentially going to purchase.

if he wants one he wants one end of. he has had one before and liked it so wants to buy another one, i dont think he cares about people saying "dont get one" just leave him and if you have something to sell, sell it, otherwise, move on.

so why do you end up selling shite gear on here then? because you didn't take everybody's advice, as you are now advising this guy to do? we're just making the point that he will be wasting his money, at least in my case from personal experience.

i had this problem a couple of years ago. i filed down the next fret up, then the next fret up from that - but more lightly, then did the same for the fret up from that, but only very lightly. it seemed to solve the problem as it's been fine ever since, and it's my main guitar which i play almost every day. maybe i was lucky, but it worked for me.
