  1. Crikey, Spit, I don't think anyone hates them. I'm just not a big fan of their music. I daresay they're lovely fellas and I wish them all the best. I just don't dig their music. I've kind of heard it all before really. They were very very tight, though. And they have nice guitars. :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that the people that have contributed to this particular thread - or attended the gig - felt that way but I did stumble upon another thread about a previous shutter gig, where some very out of line personal comments were made about them, which is of course completely uncalled for regardless of their musical preference.

Nice guitars indeed. I wanted one of those aerodyne jazz basses, but they don't do left handed versions. I'll show everybody when I get a solid gold one.

  2. Yeah, it was a really good night.

I thought everyone was top bananna and dare I say it, shutter were superb. I don't know the history of the hatred, but I personally think they are top blokes and I've always had a hoot with them.

For me it wasn't so much of a gig as a test-gig-experiment, as it's the first time I've taken it out the house. There were plenty of mistakes, plus feeding back from the mics, buttons being pesky and so forth. I missed out a song because I thought it was going rather badly, but I wish I just played it. It was a nice upbeat jaunty twin-bass number too but as I said, it didn't really bother me as it was something new for me.

Thanks again to Ben for digging it enough to invite me up

    Spit

  3. Drouthy's is cool. Never got to see a gig there but I was in quite often when I did my masters at the art school.

Its the people that attended the balcony bar gig that mainly contribute to our lack of enthusiasm of coming back. That and we were pretty shit that night along with the heckles and the boos and the scathing online critique. So I had most of my back facing the crowd, wanna fight about it?

On a seriuos note, we've played a few times and never gone down well. Maybe Dundee just aint ready to see an asian on stage?

Yeah, get back to my flied lice you plick! :O

I must admit, i'm not *that* into post-rock (even though there's several sub-divisions within the 'post-rock' thing itself but that's another thread. Maybe i'm too old and not down with the kids?), but that last gig in the Tunnels with Esperi, i thought your new stuff was fecking awesome!

another thing, i love the irony of post-rock now being a standard form of rock

  4. i think it was just a bit of an off night for you lot that night at the balcony, I wouldnt take it to heart.

Never easy for post rock to follow something upbeat and jerky like popolo and Dundee has also been exposed to post rock for ages donkeys years - a lot of people are a just bit bored of it by now.

I really wanted to like you guys that night given that you have been around for a good while and sound good on record, but I just couldn't get into it.

I also agree with Phil that drouthies would be better than the Balcony for you. Im sure once we get gigging (if Scan can remember any of our songs  ) our paths will no doubt cross in that very venue

    yeah gerronwithit! ya bums!

  5. Hey we really enjoyed The Mill gig! T'was nice and intimate. If it wasn't pissing down with rain we probably would have had more people there that night. But you're right the other CD launch at the Tunnels was the tits! Still fucking miss you ugly bastards. I'm stickin on the Two Bear riff right now for some cock in hand nostaglia!

hope that's my cock in hand you have there

  6. Crikey...what happened, Timothy?

yeah, what happened? that was at Dexters wasn't it? Come to Drouthies. Phil likes it there, doesn't he? Dundee isn't as bad as you believe. Like the first time eye played Aberdeen, you had us in some funny old mans pub, with no-one there!

Then we were shown the Tunnels. All better.

  7. try www.soundsgreatmusic.com

they have the gcx and the ground controls there. best to give them a call tho instead of ordering online to find out stock levels.

The Audio switchers come with an american plug but they just need cut off and fitted with a uk plug. They are not wired american though, they are built for the UK but for some reason don't come with the UK plug.

Wow! i thought it was nearer 800SOBS for some reason. Cheers for that!

No no no, must fix the suspension on the van first.... :nono:

  10. since neighbours moved to channel 5 I have abandoned by studenty ways and not watched neighbours. But i do like to think good old harold and lou and still bumbling along and lou is findy new ways to rip off the residents of the house of trouser...

    anyhoo back to the gig...

Fuck the gig, I've got a date with Helen Daniels, Billy Kennedy, and um, Cody Willis?....right ok, gig it is. Lousy Aussies with their prison heriatige, leathery skin and poisonous spiders/snakes/frogs/plants/dust/tongue.

So yeah, gig. I'll probably be there about 6:30-7:00.

  11. Sorry, my comment came off a bit harsh there i think. I like your stuff enough to listen to it and not turn it off instantly. I guess i just found it too "backgroundy" if you know what i mean, it didn't hold my attention enough. That's not to say that i didn't get something out of listening to it though as there are some very nice bits here and there and it's well recorded and put together.

I dunno, it just didn't grab me enough i guess.

It would be interesting to see how it translates live though as it may work better for me in that environment.

No that's quite alright. I agree that it can be backgroundy (hopefully not in a 'muzak' way) and I guess to an extent I subconsciously don't want it to progress or 'do anything'. Kind of like watching Neighbours, where you can drift in an out over a course of many years, and Lou Carpenter is still coming up with get rich quick schemes and Bouncer is still dead.....

  12. Hey everyone,

I'm looking forward to this night. Ah, t'will be fun for sure.

Thanks for above comments, both good and bad. I do hope you enjoy it in real life.

Alkaline, I appreciate your honesty. Any thoughts on anything specific that you feel is lacking? and i don't want to sound confrontational when I say that as I am genuinely interested in others opinions, as i am of course only one man (woe is me!) and although I primarily do it for my own enjoyment, it obviously makes sense to let others enjoy it too! PM me if anyone wishes.

I hate 'laptop sets' as much as the next 'muso'- Katerwaul/Bench will remember the event in which [eye] and they played alongside a sea of pretentious scene queens checking their emails live on stage! We were the ones scoffed at for having these primitive amplimicators and guitarimaphones.

So, I will be doing my best to play as much as i can live, and leaving the Solitaire until later.

In conclusion, Beatles bad, Wings good.

    Discuss.

  13. yeah Esperi can sometimes be chris on his own and sometimes with a variety of members, both being very enjoyable.

I believe spit from eye/nomogram is playing with them now, which can only be a good thing!

aw shucks, it is indeed true. I joined a while back whilst doing a spot of recording for them (us?), did a show or so playing glock and other bits. Kev will be on the 'album', bar a couple on new ones, which is all still roughly mixed and un-re-recorded, as per current Myspace songs, but it's coming together.

Last night in Glasgow was my first gig on bass on a pokey little stage which was oddly fun. i had to sit on my cab, and kicked Jon [drummer] in the shins when i moved. Also had a nice view of the back of Chris' head.

From what i remember, everyone stands at the back during gigs at the Tunnels? Maybe we should set up by the bar?

    :ding:
