  1. Please don't take this the wrong way Idol, we encourage comment and suggestion. But if you know of a way that venues can work together, then please feel free to suggest it instead of just shooting us down!

We really don't feel that we're in competition with anyone in Aberdeen (other than maybe Wetherspoons and the evil giants who seek to destroy all independents maybe! lol)

As for Drummonds, Tunnels, Lemontree, Moorings.etc I say the more the merrier! The last thing we want to do is fight with those guys, they know what they're doing and in a one on one fight....they'd win!

So we fully encourage anyone who's bringing in music/acts/dj's whatever, if the scene flourishes then hopefully so will we!

Very well said!! I think that puts an end to any misunderstandings on a very sensible and positive note!

  2. Thank you sooo much Maria, like I say the level of support we've been receiving has been nothing short of amazing and we're feeling really positive about things.

This site is fantastic and has helped prove to us that we can really make a go of it and that there is demand in Aberdeen for the type of place we want the Wig to be! We're not some faceless brewery pub and we're depending on the Wig for our livelihood, and with a wee one to support it's vital we make things work, so it's in our best interest to do things right!

Beyond all that though we actually love the bar and can't wait to get it up to the level it deserves to be at, a lot of people are very fond of the Wig and we sincerely hope we can live up to everyones expectations and I think by being open and honest about our plans, people (although not everyone may agree) will hopefully respect what we're doing.

For example we kicked out Sky Sports, primarily because it doesn't fit with our plans or vision of the pub, but also because we would have been paying Sky more on an annual basis than we're currently paying any of our staff...or ourselves! Seriously! A few folk have moaned about not having the football on, but as soon as the above is explained to them they soon come around to our way of thinking! Plus there's plenty of places to watch the footie (pubs with a million flat screens/3D.etc) and not everyone wants to sit in a bar and listen to 20 or 30 guys shouting abuse at a TV!

We absolutely encourage anyone to ask questions or make suggestions, as we want the Wig to have a real community spirit, especially amongst the music fans in town!

Thanks again to everyone on here!

Oh, thank goodness... NO f*****g footie!!!! YEAH!!

I'm looking forward to coming through to Aberdeen and checking out the Wig! 8-)

  3. Hello Maria my darling what you doing in the dooms cyber space ? Were playing tilted wig sat 6th nov you should come through although oxjam on sat 23rd oct at blue lamp should be a great night as Gerry 's blues bands playing too and the lorelei (not sure if you've seen them but loads of energy for old men) hee hee

Hello my darling you too!!! lol  I've been on this forum for a few years, just haven't been on recently.

I shall try for both if at all possible. I haven't had a night out at the Lampy for years, (hope to see Sandy's happy smiling face.. joke!!), I can stay with my darling daughter, Luthien, Gerry's an old friend as is Beefy (Lorelei) then of course yourselves with new brass!!! What more could anyone ask???

Then I also want to check out The Tilted Wig so.... hopefully see you at both!

  4. I think the venue has to somehow show this reported "genuine interest" in the local music scene before bands just automatically start supporting it. There seems to be a lot of talking coming from The Tilted Wig, but not much walking.

January is a long time to wait before they revamp it. They should have revamped it, installed a quality PA and a stage first, and then they'd be in a position to support the local music scene and then generate reciprocated support.

    Actions speak louder than words.

I can say categorically, (with experience of trying to start a music venue near Inverness about 10 years back) that the Tilted Wig is doing a fantastic job!

We stupidly did shitloads of renovations, built a small theatre basically and put in 9000 worth of sound equipment/PA (It was actually mostly the Lemon Tree's old system), booked fantastic acts from the States and all over the UK, plus lots of local bands, at great expense, all before the Grand Opening.... and got on average, about 10 punters through the doors!! o_O

Any businessman with any sense (yes, I'm freely admitting we had no sense at all!!) tests the water and makes sure of the demand first before blowing a fortune on it!!

As it is, they have obviously invested a lot of money and hard work already to get this far, and I congratulate them on that! I'm delighted to see a great new venue in the making and wish them all the luck.. and positivity.. in the world!

  5. I'd be into it. Either just me and my lead guitarist or maybe my full band 'FutureX'. (It might not be possible to get them all with such short notice.)

What's the details? Payment, length of set, times, etc.

    We're a blues/rock band doin a mix of original music and covers. You can check us out at;

  6. Thanks

Yep thanks to all. Especially Maria Hall who played a great set and to Estrella who stepped in for an impromputu gig.

So, who fancies playing next month?!

Hey Claire thanks. We had a great time and the feedback we've had from both the gig and the vids we took has been really good.

Wishing you and Jamie the very best for the future,

  7. Hello

I'm putting on a gig at drummonds on june 23rd...yes it is getting rather late in the day however exam stuff recently has put this on hold till now.

Anyway, iname will be opening. Looking for similar style bands (if possible) to complete the line up.

    any takers?

You can check out my standard accoustic type set on MySpace.com - Maria Hall Music - Brodie, UK - Folk Rock / Alternative / Blues - www.myspace.com/mariahallmusic but I also have a set that I do that's fairly spacey with lots of effects, that I think would compliment your sound.

Speaking of complimenting your sound, I like the track on yer myspace and will probably play it on one of my weekly radio shows on nessmp3.com. It's cool and we'd like to play Drummonds on 23rd if there's still a spot.

    Peace,

    Maria

  8. Howdy all, we are promoting gigs in Fraserburgh on a regular basis which attract around 200 people. We put five bands on the bill on the nights and are looking for bands who would be interested in playing.

Check out the website at North East Rock it's still under-construction so excuse the slight messyness.

Anyone interested get in touch at northeastrock@tiscali.co.uk

    Cheers

My Rock/Blues covers band, FutureX may be interested in a month or so. We've just taken on a new drummer so it'll be a little while to get him up to speed. I'll check your websites. You can get some info and hear our music on FutureX: home where I present a weekly Internet Radio Show. You can also get me on MySpace.com - Maria Hall Music - Brodie, UK - Folk Rock / Alternative / Blues - www.myspace.com/mariahallmusic but I must stress my own music on that site is nothing like FutureX.

    Cheers,

    Maria

  9. Interested in playing

Hey I am looking for acoustic acts to get involved in a new monthly event at cellar 35 starting May 18th. The idea is to get acoustic acts together from 16:00 - 22:00 (flexible) each doing a 30 - 45 min set in a very chilled out atmosphere, sunday papers/buffet etc if you are interested in getting involved, in any capacity, please get in touch.

    Thanks

    Jamie

Hi, I'd be quite interested in playing as I have friends and family in Aberdeen and I know Cellar 35 very well. What kind of accoustic music are you talking about? I'm a singer songwriter, is that the sort of acts you mean? When you say accoustic, do you mean without a PA? Most importantly, is there any remuneration?

    Peace,

    Maria
