  1. Might as well be you.

We're putting on a wee gig in December in aid of Shelter. It's called Winter Wonderland and it should be rather good. Tix and full lineup at www.xfmscotland.co.uk.

That's almost beside the point. Xfm are looking for an under 18 band to open the show with. We know how hard getting gigs can be, especially if you are too young to play pubs. Rock School is open to the whole of Scotland, and with my fondness of the North I thought you'd like to know.

Upload some tunes, get your mates/fans to vote, big wigs and DJ's decide on the best, do a showcase in ABC, best live act opens at the Carling Academy.

None of this big business skepticism, this is totally face value stuff. ie, if you are in a band and under 18, get the fuck involved.

    All the best

  2. im no part of the industry in any way and i prefer to avoid the business liek the plague' date=' so maybe im not qualified to comment on such things but

surely that is inaccurate. tigerfest is a wee collection of gigs with a ton of insular indie music. whereas go north (for all its sins and shocking organisation) covers much more musically and workshop wise[/quote']

Although I've not been up this year, from a radio point of view it's about seeing a lot of bands in a short period of time (in both cases).

I'm glad it's there to help bands get a leg up. To be able find out more about MCPS / PRS / get contacts for gigs outside the NE / be inspired to practice harder / whatever, you rarely get the opportunity on your doorstep.

Long live GoNorth and independant events just like it.

  3. It's on the backpage of Music Week, and GoNorth is getting a bigger profile outside of the North East - which is surely the point. Increasing the potential audience for bands in the area.

There was a lot of talk of GoNorth at the recent YourSound in Glasgow, and although not as high profile as Tigerfest it is taken just as seriously.
