  1. Hahah, there's no way I'd use that outside of a joke. That's not to say I don't love listening to that sword-waving crap, I just don't write fantasy lyrics (apart from the one song).

    Incidentally, those are pretty good fantasy power lyrics.

  2. Here, I've uploaded the clip;

    Bear in mind it's live and at the end of the set, so my voice was a bit knackered but you get the idea.

    Cheese is awesome.

    Here's a clip of one of the regular songs, minus the hammer-waving mightiness;

    We now have a much better drummer. Black Atom, we'd fucking love to support you guys if you're up for some heavy metal and beer sometime in April/May.

  3. We're recording our demo in about a month, I'm very tempted to put Dan Atom's songs to music and post them on here. If we get the gear for a good few days I'll post a thread and sing whatever you give me.

    My Pow-errr reheat-ed your micro-wave meeeeealllll!!!!

  4. There's an in-joke with fantasy power metal a lot of people don't get. If those bands took themselves even slightly seriously I'd be worried, but very few of them do. It's like watching a Conan the Barbarian film, it's camp as fuck but that's why it's hilariously entertaining.

    A lot of people who slate fantasy power metal don't have any problem with a great deal of metal bands who growl utter pish about 'the system' and the 'I have no God' standard, with clumsy metaphors and no melody. In power metal you can't scrape a record contract by drop-tuning and shouting loudly. I'm a fan of metalcore, it's passionate, but the contrast in musical ability is huge.

    We play power metal, and only one of our songs is a very purposeful cliched in-joke. It's called Dominate. It contains the lyrics 'March, Fight, Destroy. Slay Them All.'

    It's catchy, it's camp, and the lyrics are hilariously shite. That's the point. While people who don't 'get it' are laughing because they look down on it, we're all laughing at the in-joke and laughing at the people who don't get it even more. When they ask why we like it, we tell them it's 'Real Metal' and raise our ale. Then they get even more irate and we laugh even more. It's about having fun.

    I used to come away from metal gigs saying 'yeah it was a good night, good pits and my nose got broken', and that was a good gig. Now I sing power metal instead of metalcore I have a much better night singing with the crowd, drinking too much beer and falling over waving a plastic sword. The lyrics of fantasy power metal aren't serious, people who take the piss need to realise this, even though it's funnier when they don't. It's a laugh, and if you're in on the joke it's the most entertaining contemporary metal style there is.

  5. that's a different spelling of Dedalus though. the greek mythological version is Daedalus whereas Dedalus got their name from a James Joyce book called portrait of an artist as a young man. the lead character being called Stephen Dedalus.

    I wasn't aware of Joyce's character and thought it was a misspelling. You learn something new every day.

  6. I enjoy a bit of Indie but that was the nineties 4 you! The noughties are all about the Metal - I'm loving it all! Please come and play!

    Cheers man. We're not all about swords and dragons and mighty hammers held high, I think that's often the conception of power metal held by non-fans. We're just a metal band with a lot of influences drawn from the soaring melodies and harmonies of Maiden and Priest, with some more contemporary 'heavier' elements.

  7. I'm used to those responses, usually from indie fans, it's an inherently pretentious genre. To label anyone's music an unnecessary pisstake is out of order by anyone's standards, musicians should be professional enough to keep that crap to themselves. I don't enjoy indie and I don't enjoy contemporary punk but I respect anyone with the drive to go out and make music.

  8. Hahahah. We don't play Dungeons and Dragons and we don't sing about orcs.

    We're power metal musically, lyrically we're more Maiden.

    What's the main music scene in Aberdeen? If it's indie there's no hope :(

    What's the need for epic riffs and thundering solos? You're missing out min ;)

  9. Alreet guys, I've just registered here as I've got a few good mates in Aberdeen who want us to come play a gig. What's the need for power metal up there? We're wondering if we'd get a crowd if we arranged a gig in Aberdeen this summer, so I want to know early if there's a decent following for stuff like Iron Maiden, Freedom Call, Edguy, Iced Earth etc. If there is, let me know, or feel free to tell me to get to fuck and take my leather pants with me.

    We've no demo yet, not for a couple of months, but our site is under construction at http://www.icarusfalls.co.uk, and we're on http://www.myspace.com/icarusfallsband.

    Cheers.

  10. Just read a lot mate. If you want to tell a story, read similar poetry and literature, if you want to make a point do your research first. It annoys the fuck out of me when bands claim to be political and their message is absolute pish. Like Tubthumber said don't try and write the same tired old shite you hear on the radio.
