  3. the bands last single released in october, reached the heady heights of number 57 in the hit parade so it would seem the pop kids don't give a shite about them any more.

flash in the pan is about right about the view although wated little dj's will always be a cracking wee song.

I listen to the radio everyday and heard the 5 rebeccas single once and that was on the johnathan ross show on radio 2 hardly target audience. I presume radio1 never played it because of the junkie reference in the song, so if nobody heard it it's hardly surprising it never sold well.. read a review of the new album and from what it said it sounds like it'll be very good.

  4. Walked into the box office at the back of 11 this morning expecting to get told sorry tickets all sold out but no still had some left. Didn't manage to get to see them at the lemon tree so glad I've got for Music hall although I hope they have a new sound engineeer from when they last played there as the sound was f*****g awful that night.

  5. after a 6 month break i've finally got round to organising another soul night which will be held downstairs at the Malt Mill on Holburn st on the Sat 15th of Nov from 8pm. Plenty of the best Northern, modern, xover and motown tracks from the 60's onwards.

  6. There's an Alice Clark number by the same name. It's a personal favourite of mine. Is it the same song?

Yes it is the same song it was published by jobete which was motowns publishing company so would guess Kim Weston is the original version. I have the alice clark 45 on US warner brothers.

the marvin gaye tune when I feel the need was recorded by Nick ashford on verve and since the marvin version was unissued it begs the question how did other record labels here the tunes in the first place.

  7. Few other titles i forgot to mention

MARVIN GAYE WHEN I FEEL THE NEED UNISSUED SIMPLY AWESOME TUNE

MARTHA & VANDELLAS ONE WAY OUT GORDY 45

Also try and get hold of a motown lp called ric tic relics which is a comp of ric tic label stuff recorded in the 60's by the likes of jj barnes edwin starr fantastic 4 etc

  8. if you want to hear the best Motown stuff then get your hands on comp cd's containing the unissued stuff. few that spring to mind

the northern soul of motown vol 1& 2 and a cellarfull of motown. vol 1 & 2 and tamla motown connoisseurs

I have quite a few motown lps from the 60's and i wouldn't say i have a truely outstanding lp out of all of them 1 or 2 great tracks per lp.

most of the unissued stuff is now available on the cd's I mentioned.

the stax /atlantic stuff for me is good but compared to the stuff that was on the stax subsidiary label VOLT it's very average

MARGIE JOSEPH ONE MORE CHANCE VOLT

DARRELL BANKS i'M THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU VOLT

The above 2 tracks alone are up there with the very best soul records ever made

you can hear the above 2 tracks by clicking on link below when you get to soul girls website just type names in search box

    ► ♫ Soulgirl's Sweet Soul Music: Northern Soul 8

While there listen to some of the other Darrell banks stuff like somebody somewhere and our love very underrated artist who was killed by an off duty policeman in his prime a great talent taken away far too early in his life.

Loads of great soul stuff came out of detroit apart from motown labels like THELMA, KAREN, WHEELSVILLE, SOLID HIT, PREMIUM STUFF,

I've been unto soul music for years now and I'm still hearing stuff I've never heard before so get digging and enjoy the best music in the world.

  9. In the very early days of ebay when it was the US site only was looking for a roy hamilton 45 and couldn't believe my luck when in a box of 45s of which there was a roy h 45 in it but not the one I wanted there was a Ralph graham 45 she just sits there on upfront got the whole box for $16 the ralph g 45 is now selling for about a grand.

  10. I have the trammps stop and think angel sound acetate according to a soul website this got a cat no for the golden fleece label but no vinyl copies have ever turned up.

Also Gail wynters you don't have to be in love on US hickory issue on yellow vinyl only ever seen demos of this put a post on one of the soul sites and nobody has seen another issue.

used to have the freakbeat classic Alen pounds get rich on columbia but traded it at the cavern for soul vinyl according to record collector it's the 2nd rarest freakbeat single.

  11. Not saying they're the best but there was a time I dug them i.e. the 80s:

    Love and Money

    The Big Dish

    Danny Wilson

PS. has anyone mentioned Primal Scream or The Pastels?

Current favourite Scottish band are The Poems.

Used to like love & money til I found out they were IRA sympathisers they could get to F**K after i found that out.

    The Poets

    My dear Watson

    Belle and sebastion

    Jesus and Mary chain

    Goodbye Mr Mackenzie
