The poster has gone for a burton really hasnt it. That really annoys me when so many bands pull out. In fact, Im sick of it. sometimes it cant be helped though i understand. shame
-
I expect its still cold.
the zek will be up soon for a gig but very busy in the central belt.
anyone have any input about the bands that are playing this gig? we have played with one of them before which was very funny..
-
I think I will head along to this. It would be rude not to I suppose! Should be a good evening.

Bloody Hell. I take it all back.

I should maybe point out that it is the avatar of Noam Chomsky. I thought I should mention that just incase he changes it to Dave Benson-Phillips or something and makes my previous comment look slightly stupid!
-
I thought the same thing actually...
As did I.
Nice to see Ollies Avatar. Good that some people do have SOME sense to follow the worlds most important man. Seriously I hope.

A new look and new sounding post-punk, electro-shoegazey Stroszek will be hitting Aberdeen for the first time since February on Tuesday 25th July.
Full line up is:
Stroszek
Killing Time
www.myspace.com/killingtimemusic
Los Caballeros
Aveda
Doors 8pm
3 Entry
If you don't know who Stroszek are then go and find out more about us on our websites. Not had the chance to properly hear Killing Time and Aveda yet but it will be great to play with the excellent surf instrumentalists Los Caballeros once again.
And it will be nice to get the chance to see some old faces again. Some pretty. Some haggard. As usual!

I regret to announce that Stroszek will no longer be able to play at Drummonds tomorrow night. I am not very well and my throat is fucked. We had to come off early at the Glasgow gig last night because its just knackered.
Apologies to those of you who were coming down to see us. It is a shame as we have some great new songs and I was looking forward to playing with the 55's who I recommend you go and see.
Instead of getting a full replacement for Stroszek, Les and Doug are going to nip on first before the other bands tomorrow under the name 'Volvo Death Spell' and do some improvised instrumental numbers which will be interesting. I wont be there, but as long as Les doesn't try and sing you will all be safe.
Apologies

Should be a great evening. First Stroszek gig in Aberdeen for some months.
The 55's havent played Aberdeen since the days of Drakes, after they had to pull out of the John Peel day gig. Ive seen them a few times and theyre one of the few bands around that have caught my attention recently.
See you there!

StroSzek's last local gig for some time so hope to see quite a few people there.

A very enjoyable evening. Glad to see some people have a conscience. Good to see some cash and awareness was raised. We played quite different set with some new songs thrown in and it felt quite strange playing on the same bill as the other bands as we are very different. But a good night was had by all. Thanks to David for asking us to play.
-
Looking forward to this one. It's a very strange and diverse line-up.
That will make it all the more interesting though.

I have to admit that I dont hate the guy. It was very unfair of me to say so as I believe the mentally retarded should somehow be incorporated into society in some way, and those with severe personality defects should also be encouraged to take part in meaningful conversations (whilst keeping them away from computers, decks and gigs, obviously).
please promise i dont get a girly reaction (on the boards of course, right as rain to face) like i did from RICHEY JAnyway,
Im quite happy to have another 'conversation' with you about things. And yes, I have been 'right as rain' to your face. Because, for most of our last conversation I stood and laughed while you spoke a load of drunken bollocks to me ! Then, I happily accepted your apology the next day.
I am not going to go into any detail of trying to justify why you or anyone else should like us. i cant be bothered wasting my time trying to do that, especially with some people. I like being the marmite band of Aberdeen!
Looking at some of the bands you hold in high regard i would be slightly worried if you did like us because I dont want to get lumped together with most of that rubbish. We are all entitled to our opinions, as are you.
Now, lets end this thread and talk about something that matters.

If anyone is interested in the track 'Remains' by Stroszek then i have been able to mix a slightly alternate version which i have uploaded onto our myspace page, which I think is better and closer to what the song should eventually sound like in a proper recording. Its a slightly weak version of a great song, but you can find it at:

Hey that sounded like I was angry at Maxi when all I meant was that Im not really bothered as we are not his type of thing! I don't hate him or anything!
that's strange?
I do.
I don't hate him or anythingNow, how many people in Aberdeen really believe, or share the same feeling on, that??!
Let's be honest. Why hide anymore?

That's scary, I was just about to suggest a Stroszek track...perhaps they could even write a track specifically for it, seeing as they've got the sound nailed?
We would be happy to help. We are going to be recording some of our new material soon as I think we have written better songs since 'No More exclusives'. It was actually the first song we ever wrote and recorded. That was about six months ago and we havent managed to get any more proper recordings done since. Like i said, happy to help though.

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before...
'An emergency stop
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
and the pain was enough to make
a shy, bald bhuddist reflect
and plan a mass-murder
who said i'd lied to her?'
If you want a laugh, 'Strangeways' is lyrically the funniest album I've ever heard.

I'd just like to say a big thankyou to all of you who came along last night.
The bands were excellent. Steven Milne was a great opener. Like Dave said, he played some very appropriate covers. Copy Haho were excellent along with The A forest. Im glad they obliged. was really gutted that The 55's had to pull out at the last minute but I will get them to Aberdeen at some point. I would like to say how I thought we did but I cant because I couldnt hear a thing. I didn't really want to put us on last but had to juggle around the order to help out what the other bands wanted/needed. I hope we didn't sound too bad. Thought it would be nice to finish with Ceremony though. Hope we didn't murder it too much. We've never done a cover before.
I sincerely apologise to the bands for the technical problems. i thought everyone sounded excellent but i thought it was difficult for each band, including ourselves, to let ourselves go because, like I said, we could not hear a thing of what we were doin.
Thanks to Dave and sidekick for playing some great Peel related music. Your set was great. Nicely surprised to hear a bit of Ooberman. Apologies you couldnt get longer on the decks.
Thanks to Karina Macindoe for doing all the visuals and getting a video of the bands. And also to Jess Dolan from Amnesty International for whom we raised a good amount of money.
All in all it was a good night and a fitting tribute to the man himself it was well worth the effort. It was good to see people there who appreciated what he did for music.
+ special thanks to Mark thomas for coping fantastically with the sound problems that were thrown his way.

I am glad to see a lot more places around Scotland are gradually putting more 'events' on. (Either that or just putting John Peel's name on their own gig, which I have noticed people doing). There is also a bit more press coverage also. Nice to see Peel on the front page of the BBC website.

I've been to several events there (parties with bands playing/gigs)' date=' it's a perfectly good venue as far as I can see. Do they actually have an in-house promoter actively seeking bands who would play there? It's quite a sizeable place, bigger than Moshulu/Lemon Tree, smaller than the Music Hall - perhaps difficult to find the right size of band to play there in terms of popularity vs. venue capacity?[/quote']
Yeah it's a fantastic venue. They have employed someone to try and promote the place. I don't think however that it is going to be promoted as a gig venue as much as it should. I'll have to choose my words very carefully here though because I work there. I'm going to be helping them out a bit more with stuff though and hopefully get it nearer to its full potential. A very unique venue for Aberdeen i think. Ideal for big touring acts. Apparently, they can squeeze approximately a thousand people in there if needs be, with the newly refubished balcony bar.
Also, the visuals for this gig are great. i saw them earlier. The cinema screen is really good and there will be loads of images of John Peel throughout his life. Worth 4 just for that really!
-
Just a reminder to people that voting closes at 8PM today. The Vic Galloway Air show is on at 8.05 and the winning band will be played before 9.30 i think. Hopefully a lot more people can vote and we can stretch our lead a bit.

This should maybe go in another thread, but...
what do people think about The Forum as a gig venue? I know in the past they have had a couple of big bands there and recently missed out on the Babyshambles gig.
Personally, I think this is one of the biggest and best venues Aberdeen has. I work in the restaurant upstairs and also in The Forum sometimes and it seems ideal. looking at what Moshulu has done the past year or so i think this place is horrendously under-used in terms of bands. With an upgrade in equipment for the place it is a potential gold-mine (as I keep telling the owner!)
Anyone been there for gigs or events or just the Vegas night? They even have a cinema-sized screen in there that they show the Scotland matches on. Will be good with all the John Peel images. Local artist karina Macindoe is doing the visuals for that btw.
