  1. I got a digital 8 track from Santa. I still don't know how to use 90% of it, but I can record with it at the moment...

It wasn't a Fostex digi 8 track was it? Unfortunatley they are a piece of shit, i know of three peoples Fostex's that have crashed forever. The Master board has a design flaw and it fails after about two years, it's quite a well known failure in the fostex repertiore. My Fostex failed and it costs 300 to replace the faulty master board, literally the cast of the whole bloody 8-track!!!

    Fuck Fostex!

  2. Without trying to be flippant you are treating the symptoms, not the cause. You state you hit stupid loud dB's at some points. For prog rock? I thought it metal/punk that wanted stoopid loud, well there you go, you learn somehting new every day.

    Just turn it down.

You only get your hearing once you know, don't fuck with it!

Quiet, man its the new loud!

Yeah, were more a post-rock band. and yeah it gets loud. If we turn it down we loose the intensity we are after. And yes, i fully understand that i get my hearing only once, thats why i'm protecting the beauties from now. And it's not just the band, it's clubs (which i hardly attend these days), the djembe circle i'm in, my drum kit, gigs etc etc. Thay all contribute to the mess.

Recon i'm gonna try the cheaper plugs first of all... the 10-15 ones and see how that goes. Splendid.

  3. Hey.

My name is Billy and i'm a musician that suffers from Tinitus. I've been using the crappiest foam ear plugs for the last year or so and my Tinitus has gradually got worse. Before i invest in expensive ear plugs, i need to know which ones are the right selction for me. I play in a progressive rock band that reaches silly Db levels. Also when we play gigs the monitoring is usually unbelievabely loud at points which is causing damage. I will be investing in PROFESSIONAL ear plugs due to this adversary called Tinitus, but i would like to know which ones are the best i.e which ear plugs will alow me to actaully hear my band, and at a really safe Db level? Also, i do know that profesional plugs are expensive, so feel free to suggest those ones too, as money is nothing compared to a life of constant high freguency ringing bells in my head.

I appreciate your time on this important matter of mine.

    Kind Regards

    Billy Balmer

  4. Hey, my name is Billy and i am living in Glasgow at the moment! I have previously been in the band Northern Inertia, which sounded like mogwai meets sonic youth. I am moving up to St Cyrus (just a bit south of Stonehaven) in January or February 2007. I'm wanting to start a project. A very ambitious project. I play guitar and have loads of material to work with. I play like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Esmerine, Do Make Say Think, Sonic Youth and Mono. I have my own style which has some celtic/ethnic sound scapes in there. I have a set vision of where i want this music to go to. I want beauty and intensity in the music... and i feel that with a violinist and a cellist i can reach the desired peaks.

i haver already got my two friends on board (drummer and guitarist) who will deliver the sound i'm after.

The Drummer has a recording studio and obviously rehearsal space too, so jamming potential is at a maximum with no money needed to practice. My friend lives in drumlithie so a bit of a random place to go but it's amazing vibes up there. Also the guitarist lives in a house on the outskirts of Stonehaven where we can jam aswell for free!

    Is anybody interested?

    Kind Regards.

    Billy.

  5. I lived in Stonehaven until late Summer' date=' and the only bands I was aware of were a couple of crap metal bands, with ridiculous egos. I swear they even walked around town playing their electric guitars, unplugged.

ps - I don't know a Billy Balmer, but my name is Richard.[/quote']

Yeah i've seen the TEENY bopper metal bands, their fucking shite but they have some quality musicians if i remember correctly. All the bands i know are now starting to gig...we all have been playing at parties and mini festies in the country localy (big two day house parties etc) but now we are all wanting to play proper venues and kick off a mini scene in Stoney if possible...
