A good night, some sublime moments from LP amidst the chaos. Looking forward to the promised Aliens reunion next year. Any chance they'll play Aberdeen I wonder??

And what a cracker of a set he did too!!! The 'grinder' sparking away was great.

It was good. I think he was spurred on by the quality of Davidson Brothers support! Would have come over & said hello at the end, but had to rush off for an early battle through the snow this morning.

I hope Thomas was careful not to lie too still later on....o_O

It's fuck amazing, the best box set i've ever bought

Just picked up mine today. Only dipped into it so far, but am pretty impressed. There was another copy at the depot waiting to be picked up. They nearly handed it to me thinking it was for me too!! Don't hold off if you're thinking of buying - I ordered months ago & my copy is no. 2762 of 4000 so there can't be many left!

Just checked JCC's website & MySpace and there's no mention of him playing The Lemon Tree or anywhere else with The Fall. I emailed him to ask nicely what the score was. It seems odd given he's supported the The Fall in the past. It couldn't be that Mark E has fallen out with him.... no, surely not.

He's still listed on some further dates on this tour including Edinburgh today when Milophobia are again supporting. Wasn't it lucky they just happened to be in town & it was nice of them to hand out a flyer to enable the punters to remember their name and avoid in future. For a very brief moment I thought JCC had gotten a haircut and lost his shirt...

Any truth in the rumour that a Fall reunion is planned for the Albert Hall? The happily reunited former band members will be occupying the seats whilst the audience sit on the stage... whilst MES fucks off to the bar to start a fight.

So, with no tickets, we were made to stand outside in the rain from 8.15 until 9pm before they'd even open the doors to sell tickets. Great mandate for the "fresh start"!

You should have done what I did and bought a ticket at the HMT box office which is open till 8pm. Having said that at 7:30 they clearly weren't expecting much trade as they'd already cashed up the till, having to rummage around for my 20p change. Don't know if the larcenous 1.80 booking fee applies to buying tickets on the door though.

I don't remember the Lemon Tree every opening the doors before the posted gig time in the evening, sometimes ten minutes after....

If it's true JCC wasn't even booked, that's a disgrace. He was a fair part of why I went as was the case with several people I talked too. The posters inside said he "may" not be appearing. At the same time the "replacement" support act (unbilled) have their gear sitting on stage ready for them. Mmmm...

Yes, it was good as far as it went. I was thinking Mark was retiring to spend more time with the rider! I'd have been happy for the band to have carried on for a while longer without him. There was someone behind me filling in the words, somewhat more clearly than the man himself!

I'm glad I went anyway having bumped into an old friend from school who I hadn't seen for donkey's years. She said I hadn't changed, just had no hair. I suppose there was a compliment in there somewhere!

No John Cooper Clarke (at least they offered refunds) and a 40 minute set from The Fall of which Mark E Smith must have spent 30 on stage. I don't know if this is normal for The Fall, but it's not what you expect from a band with a gazillion albums out there. Is it still 1977? Fantastic value for 19.80....

It's a pity this has fallen through, but I suppose we can't expect the band or venues to lose money, though I expected it would be packed after the last time. I've never seen so many people raving about a gig, expecially considering a lot of folks there didn't know Faust. Must go and listen to it again...

I believe the reason was that it would have been uneconomical for them to come all the way up here.

Not cheap at 40 a pop, but a bargain compared to the 140 I paid to see Led Zep I suppose.

Common Good Fund

After reading Bill's excellent and moving post I chanced upon a thread relating to a previous financial crisis. In a post detailing the situation at the time, it was stated that the Lemon Tree received 40,000 from the Common Good Fund.

Surely given the Lemon Tree's remit the Common Good fund would again be an appropriate source of funding? Surely this is more worthwhile than the Provost's car!

If the loss of grants is the source of the shortfall, and the finances are being handled properly and it's not a complete money pit, surely the council can fill that gap?

Upholding the dignity of the City, i.e. the expense of civic ceremonies and of the provision of suitable hospitality on appropriate occasions and for appropriate persons.

The management, upkeep and improvement of Council property which forms part of the Common Good.

Safeguarding the corporate rights of the community and defending its interests.

Granting donations to public institutions or charities.

Any other reasonable purpose which in the reasonable judgement of the Council is for the good of the community as a whole, or in which the inhabitants at large may share (to be distinguished from the separate interests or benefit of any particular individual or group of people, however deserving or needy).

You could be right...Trump will offer to save the Lemon Tree as a thank you for his Scottish roots......oh, but, as part of the plan he'll demolish Union Street and build 20 executive casinos (built by Stewart Milne, so that only 5 addicted millionaire gamblers who weigh less than 12 stones each can be in each one at the same time, in case the floors collapse).

But of course he'll do it tastefully, with each building being in tartan brick, with chrome turrets echoing Balmoral castle, and cartoons of Scottish kings in a frieze along every wall.

The only thing that could stop Trump's redevelopment of The Lemon Tree and Union Street would be the discovery of an endangered species unique to the area. That thing that used to live on Stewart Milne's head could fit the bill!

2 weeks ago, the p&j mentioned that the LT was in trouble and the council was going to offer us 250k, this information was leaked by a senior councillor. The board didn't hear anything about this.

On Tuesday, the press reported that there were 2 options offered to the board, from the council, to save the Lemon Tree. Only one was actually mentioned by their 'messenger'.

This only offer was for, wait for it, 250k.

I see Aberdeen Journals are demonstrating once more the fair and balanced journalism that they have shown throughout the Trump shenanigans.?(?(

Surely that saviour of the North East and well known philanthropist Donald Trump will sail to the rescue to demonstrate his dedication to culture and the desires of the local population? As we all know, he has our interests at heart more than the council. Well, that's what the P&J tells me, so it must be true!

Yes and no. A couple of tables of people lingered, taking the opportunity of a free gig. A bit awkward for the staff & promoters, I imagine. Do you tell them to bugger off while they are drinking their coffee? Alan's set didn't hint at what was to come:jester:

The diners in front of the stage were amusing. They seemed to enjoy Alan & decided to hang around for the main act. After all, if the support is that good, what's the headliner going to be like? When he started off with the hornicator their expressions and body language were priceless.

It was funny watching the looking round as if thinking "these people paid to watch this - odd they look kinda normal". They seemed to get into it though, looking much more relaxed before the reappearance of the hornicator scared them of. As Thomas said, they don't seem to like hornication.

Excellent gig though. But very hot upstairs & the ventilation (obviously not aircon) was pretty loud there.
