  1. well, i'll rock the boat here and say that i don't actually mind the kaiser chiefs. as someone noted earlier, they do totally follow a template in all their songs, which is really quite irksome (verse chorus verse oooooh OOOHHH AAAAAAHHHHHHHH ARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!! CHORUS!!!) but they are quite catchy, upbeat and ultimately so inoffensive that i don't think they are even worth anybody's hate. it's like hating The Beautiful South - why waste your energy?

  2. there's a song that keeps on playing in top shop at the moment, which makes me laugh in disgust by the awful cliched nature of the lyrics. someone care to help me out with the name of the song, so i can make sure i can keep a wide bearth of the band in the future? the lyrics go something like this:

my weakness is, is that i care too much

the past reminds me blah blah real

i tear myself open, just to feel

i'd type it into google, but i fear that i'll just come up with a shit load of livejournal entries.

  3. how do you actually go about being sponsored for a particular charity? i'm thinking about doing this, but the last time i was sponsored was probably when i was 9 or something and just went around school demanding 50ps. but what about in real life?!!

and on that website - does that mean the four charities listed are the only ones you can be sponsored by?

  4. i thought that there would be an awful lot more 80's cartoons in the mix as i assumed the majority of the people voting would be ages 16 - 35 or there abouts. sure they had thundercats, heman and teenage muntant ninja turtles, but where was gummy bears, count dukula and the racoons?!!!

and aladdin scoring higher than the little mermaid? give me a large dose of wtf.

i feel i should be holding a big placard saying "GUESS WHAT I'M FEMALE!!!" at this point.

  5. this band make me so happy that i don't even care that i gushed when i briefly spoke to amanda palmer at their gig on thursday night. i mean, i have barely listened to anything else since i heard about them in october. LISTEN TO THIS BAND!!! my hope is that when they come back to edinburgh in the summer lapsus linguae will come out of hiding and be their support = perfect gig!

  6. Even though this will make me sound like a broken record, Tod Ashley of Cop Shoot Cop/Firewater has an amazing voice - like a more melodic Tom Waits.

I have also recently been impressed by the voice of Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls. Her voice can carry a great deal of emotion without any loss of vocal quality.

  7. most television channels are going to show it simultaneously tonight' date=' at 5:50pm according to BBC News[/quote']

at first i didn't know this and assumed that the telly was broken. i thought to myself, surely it wouldn't be deemed important enough to take up every channel? i mean seriously, what was the last thing that was? at best this is a christmas charity single masquerading as some important life changing event that the orginial band aid apparently was. i mean, mr blobby was a charity single and i don't remember that deserving so much exclusive air time. all this is is another attempt at music industry back slapping as to how great they all are, much like that nauseating hall of fame finale was on sunday. it's just because its for charity that we are supposed to buy into it.

i will not buy this single - i can think of better ways of donating to charity than spending 2.99 in the christmas rush on this cringe-inducing drivel.

  8. Actually there are some who think that it's fun to do these things regardless of how nice you are. I know because I've worked alongside them.

Also chefs who become indignant when a customer complains that their food is cold (and it clearly is) and then decide to do stuff to it.

People occasionally do have a right to complain' date=' and it's not beyond the realms of reason that they should have their complaint dealt with without the need for nasty stuff to be done to them.[/quote']

i don't get it. i have worked in a pub kitchen for two years and not ONCE have me or any of my co-workers messed about with someones food. in short - we just don't care enough for it to bother us!!

most of the time customer complaints have no effect on me, except for amusement, such as when a chancer sent back a burger "cos the meat was too big for the bun" and so asked for a steak instead. or the obviously penniless student who asked us to doggy bag soup.

seriously though, there are far more interesting things to do in a kitchen than sabotage food - like endurance tests in the walk in freezer- try it!
