  1. Yeah I think I popped in to see them at T in the Park. I remember thinking they were great when I saw them, much better than the lack of originality some might draw from their myspace recordings.

Perhaps I heard some of their less mainstream songs at TITP, or there was something about their live show which transcends.

Certainly the highlight for me was when the lead singer announced the next song title as something like "Most guys can't dance...I am not most guys" then proceeded to eat John Travolta's heart out.

Heck yeah, worth seeing...if they put on the same show that they did at T in the Park anyway...

  2. Yeah we thought you might have had us mixed up with somebody else Flash, seeing as we hadn't played the Moorings before, but no way were we gonna stop you saying good things.

Just to say we thoroughly enjoyed the night, Aluminum Babe were fantastic imo, From Mars put on a good show and some of us reckoned Ghost of Bongo stole the show at the end. Real privilege to play with these bands, but particularly to play the Moorings. The setting-up was almost as enjoyable as playing our stuff. How stress-free can you get? Thanks Flash.

Thanks also to Rico for organising the night. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

And thanks to everybody who came.

  3. Kills the soundwaves dead, perfect for recording. The size of my one easily incorporates a many tommed and cymballed drum kit. There is an active ventilator which actively sucks air out and another that passively lets air in. It's that serious re: airtightness. I could go on but you'll know it all already as it's all on the Studiospares site. I guess the advantage of this is that you're guaranteed the soundproofing as opposed to spending just as much on soundproofing an existing room and it all going pearshaped because the soundwaves escape in a minute area you hadn't originally considered. As regards practising, if a whole band plays inside the booth, you hear what sounds like a band a few streets away. If you go outside the room in which you have the booth, the only way you'll hear anything at all is if you are very quiet and listen at the door.

  4. Ok, I doubt anybodylocal's going to have the money kicking about for this, as I did sacrifice an arm and a leg to pay for it, but I'm not getting the use out of it that I thought I would. I thought you guys should get first shout before I advertise this nationally.

This is a 1 year old soundproof booth manufactured in Holland by Esmono ideal for recording drums, guitars, vocals and for practice without being a noisy neighbour. You can fit a 4 piece band with drums and amps into this baby (5 at a slight squeeze). The booth takes 2-3 hours to construct from steel panels with 2 materials within (one for absorbing the sound and the second for stopping dead what gets through) and with expanding foam.

There's lots more details at the website of the UK distributors Studiospares ( www.studiospares.com)

I bought it for 5,500 so I'd be looking for around 4 grand for it (not including transport costs). Like I said, I doubt anybody local would be interested AND have the cash available but hey, who knows...

  5. Hmm...

Kordoba are looking to get involved in a joint band practice space somewhere. Where is your practice space exactly? I've been told that Exile Studios are taking no more bookings beyond next week and that they are finishing their lease with ShorePorters. Is that the practice space you're thinking about?

If not, is anybody else out there interested in joining forces to rent the Exile Studios space when they finish their lease?

  6. Hmm

Thank you Youthgonewild. Daniel' date=' yes and no Brendon has played quite a few gigs around here. I don't know if the licensing laws are the same all over Scotland but technicallly is't as follows. He should not play in a room where there is a bar and should not have to walk through the bar to get to the toilet. If it's a private funtion that does not count. For instance last thursday he played in the Plough Inn, there was a bar but it's a music club. We have also been told he is allowed into premises because he is an entertainer. It all boils down to where he is playing and when. He can also play in the afternoons when there is meals available

    Cheers

    Jack

Btw what did you think of the music?[/quote']

    Hi Jack,

I think the invitation to critique might have started here. As well as the fact that you did post in the Feedback Forum.

Surely it's inevitable anyway that if you put links up to Brendon's music, that it's for the purpose of people drawing their conclusions from it. Surely it's also inevitable that somebody somewhere (usually in Aberdeen) is not going to like it.

Curiosity always gets the better of me...what's the Edinburgh label that your son's with?

  7. Looking to grace Aberdeen again after playing down at the Mercat in Edinburgh last weekend. Zenith are from Fraserburgh and are coming down to the "big" city for this night.

If you missed us at Kef, see us for free at the Maltmill next Thursday. Zenith should be on at 9:15/ 9:30 and we'll be on at roughly 10:15/10:30.

Further gig news: Kordoba, Umakesh, Fly + Reno or Bust at Drouthy Neebors, Dundee on Thursday 14th of April.

  8. Drum Machine

I've got an Alesis SR-16 which I've hardly used at all since I got it. It's effectively in brand new condition as I could count on my fingers and toes the number of times I've used (I prefer real drums you see). I bought for 220 from Bruce Millers back in 1996. Last time I saw it there, it was going for 230.

It is the "ultimate budget drum machine" (phrase officially taken from some music production magazine I read last year). I'm not really looking to sell it. I recently lost the power cable for it and it cost me an extra 25 to buy another one. But tell you what, I'll let you have it for 165.

Let me know whether or not you're interested or indeed if you have already got a drum machine from someone else.

  9. Just fronted the last gig of my old Dundee-based band Doubtful Sound on Friday to a packed Drouthie's in Dundee and sold all the CDs we brought to it. With bassist heading to Australia and rhythm guitarist looking to hang up his curlers and drummer moved to Coatbridge, I'm looking for new musicians to start up a new Aberdeen-based band having moved to Insch, Aberdeenshire myself.

I'm a 25 year old singer/guitarist/songwriter/keyboardist with lots of equipment (1980 Les Paul, Korg Triton, 2.85m x 2m x 2m Esmono soundproof booth ideal for practising and recording, all the necessary computer recording equipment, borrowed drum kit, violin, bass, acoustic guitar, various amps and more) and an interest in basically getting going again with good, commited musicians ASAP, say drummer, bassist, another guitarist, vocalist, and keyboardist.

Influences: Radiohead, Beatles, Muse, Strokes, Doves, Moby, Blur, Jeff Buckley, U2, Suede, Stones, Smashing Pumpkins, Haven, Bob Dylan, The Clash, Smiths, Cast, Keane, Oasis, Counting Crows, Chemical Bros, Franz Ferdinand and more.

pm me if you are seriously interested.
