  1. there's a reason people don't mention steve harris - it's because he isn't good. the only reason he keeps the pace he does - which isn't all that quick comparitively - is because all his gear is set up to max output so he can barley touch strings and still get sounds - bass techs accross the land will testify to this after blowing up their speakers by soundchecking his basses and playing in a normal fashion

  2. both have a time and a place.

sometimes ii want to listen to someone actually saying something they really care about - this does not include emo bands who really feel passionatley about how much they hate school - so i listen to neil young, steve earl etc

sometimes there's a place for extreme technicallity a la DT, Spiral Architect et al, and sometimes it's time forstraight up brutality. it's all there

  3. EMG's are the most sterile sounding pickups in the world, they're great for one thing, but kill your clean sound and totally mask the sound of your guitar. i mean, once you put emg's in your guitar you sound exactly like every other guitar with emg's in it.

dimarzio are ace, but can't cut it at high gain rhythm playing, great for the solo's, not for the riffery, that's why the dimarzio in the bridge of my parker fly is getting swapped for a seymour duncan, but the one in the neck is staying.

  4. And Justice for all - Metallica

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder

Metropolis Pt II - Dream Theater

In Their Darkened Shrines - Nile

First Strike Still Deadly - Testament

You are what you is - Frank Zappa

    Farewell to Kings - Rush

Tales From Topographic Oceans - Yes

    South of Heaven - Slayer

  5. the 5150 is a good amp - now it has been deleted a new satriani model has been made and apparently it's ace.

but then again subjective to the style of music youre playing...

it hasn't been deleted it's just changed name - it's now the 6505 but it's exactly the same amp, all EVH owned was the name

and i'm guessing it's force fed that's the peavy

although both SYL are all mesa now

  6. Vapour Trail by ride is an amzing song....so easy musically as well but sounds so great!

"first you look so strong...then you fade away.."

    So shoegazery lyrics haha

ah but, alas, not as good as vapour trails by rush.

    1. Sexual Harassment in the workplace - Frank Zappa

    3. Limelight - Rush

    4. As - Stevie Wonder

    5. Ricky don't lose that number - Steely Dan

  7. with rossP here, you have no interest from any label until they are more or less beating you off. bands i've played in have had emails, chat, requests for this and that, come to see us, spoke to us more, one asked our singer to visit the label headquarters in america, he came accross to see us here. STILL i would not describe it as interest, basically because he never offered to actually give us money

  8. never had issues in aberdeen, have been totally fucked over in dundee by the guys who do the lemuria sessions tho if anyones heard of them, tried to pay us 15 for a gig in the art bar, suffice to say got told to fuck off, didn't get anymore money out of him, but he didn't get any more gigs out of us.

any pay to play gigs amount to theft in my opinion. there is no excuse for a promoter to put on these gigs, if he doesn't think he can make his money back then he isn't booking the right bands. it's simply laziness, making sure that it doesn't matter if you do any work or not you still make your profit margin.

  9. my thrash band LeVeaux have recently parted ways with our drummer and are looking for a replacement. we have people who can stand in for upcoming gigs but require a permanent replacement as soon as possible.

we are an established gigging act in a lot of venues in various towns and have a good number of gigs already booked at the moment, including various in glasgow, perth and edinburgh along with a tattoo convention and bits and bobs in the pipeline.

we play a mix of classic 80's thrash and more modern equivelents plus some more extreme and death metal influences - main ones being: metallica, testament, slayer, pantera, the haunted, children of bodom, lamb of god.

any more info you can get on www.leveaux.com

our old drummer was an absolutely fantastic player so we really are looking for people of considerable ability.

we are open to someone who brings their own influences to the table and someone who is also a writer would be a grand bonus.

should also mention we are all aged between 19 and 22 and are from aberdeen dunfermline and edinburgh, we tend to practice in perth as it's easy for everyone but practice in edin, aberdeen and glasgow too depending on when it suits. also this is a serious band, we are currently speaking to a couple record labels and intend to be recording an album in the very near future.

any interested parties reply here or email me at leveaux_m_a_f@hotmail.com

    ta

    peace

  10. right for god's sake, new to the forum and don't want to come over totally condescending but i really can put little faith in anyone who really rates joey jordison - pro tools anyone? have you seen or heard him live? stopping and starting double kicks all the time because he simply cannot keep up. out of time on a regular basis, he must be a nightmare to play with. it's as bas time wise as bloody ringo starr.
