Definately agree with the comments re Belmont Street.

It is still the place I spent most of my cash in the day (CD's) and evening (lager). But I feel the atmosphere has changed for the worse.

I am old enough to remember when Belmont Street was out of the way, and very few people went there for a night out. Only Drummonds, Wild Boar, Ma Camerons were open.

Now Wild Boar feels like it has to reinvent it's self, with a 'trendy' makeover, and r&b music. Is there not enough bars/clubs with this style/image in Belmont Street. Have their owners never heard of attracting customers by making yourself different from the competition? Or is Belmont Street so full with drunk tossers in expensive clothes, that they pushed the previous customers away, and WildBoar needs to attract them in?

Oldham Street in Manchester, is a great example of a Council supporting independent bars and shops, and preventing an area being destroyed by national chains.

Certainly agree with Dave's comments re Fopp stock. Difficult to get stuff in there these days, they have stopped carrying the stock they used too. Also find I now have most of the CD back cataloge I want.

Going off at a further tangent, it isn't really jazz, but certainly jazz influenced, Cinematic Orchestra, 'Every Day'. Championed by Giles Peterson, a great album.

Did anyone else see them at the Lemon Tree a couple of years ago? What a great show.

Don't have a huge jazz collection, but love A love Supreme by John Coltrane, also kind of blue by Miles Davis.

Not really Jazz, more easy listening, but look out for Songs for Swinging Lovers by Frank Sinatra, it's great

I am looking for some musicians on behalf of an Aberdeen based band. They have a record deal with a Glasgow based independent label, with a release scheduled for autumn.

At this stage we are only looking for musicians to play live with the band not formally join the group.

The band have a interesting sound, too rock to be acoustic and too acoustic to be rock. Influences include Neil Young and Ryan Adams.

We are looking for someone to play bass, and/or double bass and a percussionist.

Experience would be useful, but more important is the ability to fit in with the band, and the usual enthusiasm and commitment.

Betamax, no I was them immediately after you guys in Soho Lounge. Saw Half Cousin in The Hideout, on Congress

Guy Called Gerald 'black secret technology' it is genius. Neither drum and bass, electro or house.All three, and more.

Of the out of town bands, I would recommend you see Half Cousin. Saw them in SXSW, and they were great. Sound similar, but not the same, as Beta Band.

Really enjoyed 'Charlie is my darling' and the Q&A session with Andrew Loog Oldham. If you hadn't known in advance, you might have been disapointed about the poor quality of the film and sound. The original was stolen, so only a poor copy remains.

Very interesting film, with close access to the band. Showed the Stones after they got famous, but before they hit all the drug problems. ALO was great afterwards, a lot of interesting snippets and stories.

Half Cousin.

Never heard of them previously, but saw them at SXSW. Beta Band/Four Tet type sound. They have signed to an indie in London, and have great live show, look out for them.

Best d&b track is Doc Scott 'Shadow Boxing', it is awesome.

Also worth checking out is some of the more jazz and lighter styles of d&b, Photek 'Hidden Camera', Guy Called Gerald's album 'Black Secret Tehnology' is one of my favourite albums of all time, regardless of style.

Got a great Moving Shadow compliation,its worth hunting down. Goldie/Metal Heads 'Timeless', takes a lot of beating.

From what I hear on the grapevine, Driveblind no longer live in the UK, when they signed to Universal, they moved over to Los Angles. They spent some time touring in the US. I understand they have a producer lined up for their first album, but don't know what dates, or timescale for the recording.

So to answer your question, don't think they will be touring in the Uk until they have recorded the album, so nothing immient, may not even be any dates this year. :-(

Like you guys, seen them live several times, and they are awesome. They are a great example to any aspiring band. If you want to get signed, and have a career in the music business, that is how good you need to be. They got that good, then started trying to get signed, which again, I would say is a good way to go about it

Heard that the Williams deal worked out well. Did Music Week not say that Williams earne 17 million last year?

Heard a wee bit on Radio 5, sounded like they are cutting/closing their manufacturing plants, in a bid to save costs. Also cut in their rosta, heard 20% cut mentioned. Niche markets, and 'underperforming' acts to go................

in a sentence, the difference between a band playing live, and a record, is the work of a producer. An engineer twiddles the knobs, and gets the sound that the producer wants

Yes, I was there in the Soho Lounge, cheering you on. You guys did really well.

SXSW was great, missing the sun, warmth, friendly people and the good music.
