  1. Hey everyone, probably a little late to post this, but we're playing at Cafe Drummonds tonight, with The Gems and The Upstarts. Just in case anyone fancies seeing us - we've not played Aberdeen in ages! We're a two piece rock band, a cross between Rage Against The Machine and Blink 182, and we'll be playing a whole bunch of new rocking material. I promise we rock... honest...

    Hopefully see you there

Nope, they used to be a 4 piece band, with a drummer, but he quit/got fired, not sure which.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like Busted. They're the best thing going as far as pop music is concerned, and I think they have some really good songs. And indeed they don't pretend to be anything they're not.

    24 - 2 hours practice night before

5 - set of new strings

6 - cans of juice drunk at practice (so you don't die)

    2 - handful of plectrums

if you're not so lucky to have transport

    15 on taxis (both ways)

30 on blank CD's to sell at gig (and a whole day wasted copying them, and no ones buying any)

20 on drinks at the gig (at some venues, this can consist of as little as a pint each member)

Total money you spent prepping for that gig: 102......for a local gig....and you get 10, net loss -92

While i can kind of see both sides of the argument here - I think your figures are pretty over the top and exaggerated. If this was true for every gig, most bands would be about 10,000 in debt. For instance, the CDs you make will last you til the next gig and the one after that and so on, until you sell them all, by which time you'll have made a profit or at least money back anyway. As for the practice, strings and plectrums - you don't need to practice before every gig, same goes for buying strings and plectrums. And so on.. I can see your point, but i think this list isn't very realistic and is just to try and get your side of argument across.

I think bands should get paid if the promoter is going to be making a lot of money from the gig, after all, he's making money from them - but it should really be a bonus - if you want to play your music in a band, then you can't expect to get paid all the time, afterall, there's a lot of competition out there. Plus I think the most important thing about being in a band is going out, playing shows, having fun and seeing people enjoying your songs.

Also, you need to find a new place to buy your CD-Rs.

  4. I don't remember you saying anything about your car breaking down. All we heard was that you just didn't bring an amp. If Gary had realised that, I'm sure he would have let you use it. We thought you just hadn't been assed to bring one. Neither myself or Gary has a problem with people using our gear - he just likes to avoid it where possible considering what happened to his old one. You should have said man.

And you didn't say anything to us when we were there that night either. You were being really friendly and "No really, it's fine. Don't worry about it." Then as soon as we're not there to defend ourselves you're calling us cunts?

Anyway, you're right, it's done now. Nevermind. Hope the thought of gigging with us again someday doesn't disgust you.

Just make sure you bring your own amp.

  5. Hey Craig,

Look, we're sorry about not letting you use the amp, but we sorted it out with the organiser (Lyle i think) that you guys could use any of our equipment, except Gary's guitar amp, cause it was brand new a few days ago. And the reason he had to get a new one, was cause some guitarist broke his last one. So we made double sure ultra mega positive that it would be ok for you guys to bring your own amp - cause we didn't want you to have to go through a keyboard amp or something similarly rubbish. But it still sounded fine anyway.

So sorry if we came across as cunts. We're not cunts. At least we try not to be.

    And yeah, Phantom Riffage rock.
