Mouse
One of the DiMarzio Super Distortions as they are good for rock/metal. The X2N would be suitable I'd think (I own one!). DiMarzios seem to be underrated in favour of Seymour Duncans, but they probably have some decent ones too and EMG.
Tav
Something that's not going to get muddy with all the distortion your going to be using. Something with a bit of bite...check out the seymour duncan page for ideas...it has a program to help you select.
Mouse
DiMarzio & SD also have charts on their sites to give you tone guides, the new EMG site doesn't seem to.

David
for metal active pickups are certainly a good idea, emgs or possibly some sd livewires (not sure if they stil make then though)David
Bill_Purelead
Dimarzio pickups are generally a bit cheaper than SD's i got a PAF pro neck and a Evolution bridge for sixty quid each and they sound awsome wouldn"t mind trying out a super distortion tho they are supposed to be great. Mouse
After hearing Adrian Smith playing a Super Distortion, and the soundclip off the site you can tell it kicks! I considered it but I thought I'd get the X2N because it was a higher output monster with slightly better treble
