Craig B
What's the best bit of advice you've ever been given, regarding playing guitar (I am trying to learn myself acoustic geetar)? With lots of things you find something out that helps majorly with it. I need majorly helping.Well, not that major really, but advice is nearly always good.

Alex
find your favourite chord, then detune the guitar so you can play it with one finger.
Alan Cynic
The " learn the scales" and "lots of practice" advice was the best I was given.Unfortunately I did neither, and am a four-chord strummer at best
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Don't try sound like yr favourite guitarist... be original.Try find a good sound/riff that no one has done before. Technique doesn't matter, a geat song can be 3 chords.
Hog
Do finger exercises that make one of your fingers look like it is having a fit

GraemeC
The best advise I ever got was...."You are shite, put that guitar down or I'll break all your fuckin fingers"I guess it was more of a threat than advise really.
psydoll
I always liked Jim Davies from PSI's advice that it didn't matter how good your guitar was - if you could play a really shit guitar that you owned then you could play any guitar in the world

Leckie Gilman
Make sure your strap is attached properly. One time my one came off the guitar at the bottom peg and the other end hit me in the head. Machine heads hurt.Even if you think your guitar is poop make sure you have quality cables.Join a band. Anyone who thinks they're not as good as they reckon they should be, or could be, should join a band. Or if that's not really an option, just playing music with other people will help you improve. If you're in a band it will MAKE you want to be better.Don't learn from text books. They WILL bore you. The best way to learn is from other people.I s'pose that's all i can say I reckon. Jimmygoodein
remember its not all about notes. some of the most beutiful guitar pieces only use a couple of notes. try and see how much you can do with two notes. oh and also, you dont have to always play, take a rest and see how it makes the music feel. the_beastly_one
The word is practice. No matter how bad you feel towards it, just keep in at it at every opportunity and the rest will come naturally, depending on what you want to learn. Don't be disheartened by the first few months though, like I was, you just have to keep working at it. I'd also recommend at least knowing some basic theory- even with the stigma people seem to attatch to it, it helped me a lot. Good luck with it. bryn
dont learn to play anything by anyone else.
bryn
I never practiced either. Practice is such a negative, dull, piano teachers word. If you feel the need to practice you should give up.
