Coverage in the Evening Express:

A charity gig has been set up to help a well-known Aberdeen hairdresser diagnosed with cancer.

Abdul Suliman found out he had advanced small cell cancer in December.

His daughters launched a fundraising campaign to raise £100,000 to get their dad on a clinical trial.

Tomorrow night, a charity gig set up by former clients of Abdul will be held to support the campaign, which has so far raised £8,747.

Abdul’s daughters – Sazia, 34, Sherbanu, 41, Yasmin, 26, and Layla, 22 – hope donations can help fund the cost of getting their dad to take part in trials either in the UK or overseas.

Sazia said the family has been overwhelmed with support for their fundraising. She said: “When we heard that former clients of my dad wanted to put on a charity gig, we were touched. Innes Cardo and Craig John Davidson have been organising the gig.

“It is so heart-warming to think that my dad had such an impact on these people’s lives that they would go out of their way to help us.”

The close-knit family has now rallied together to launch the fundraising drive to help give their dad, who lives in the King Street area, treatment options.

However, they have also been coping with the sad news of the death of Abdul’s brother Moosa, who lived in London.

Sazia added: “My dad and his brother were really close and it all seems to be hitting the family at once right now.

“We couldn’t tell my dad straight away as he was weak from the chemotherapy.

“However we must thank everyone who has sent us messages of support through our campaign page telling us their stories.”

Innes Cardno posted on Facebook encouraging members of the public to get involved with the charity gig.

He said: “Abdul has been a part of our community before many of us were even born. It’s time for us to show him our support.”

Tickets for the event at The Blue Lamp are £10, with Craig John Davidson, Seas, Starry and Innes Cardno all scheduled to play.

The family has asked for any business that might be able to help with any prizes for the charity gig get in touch with them via www.gofundme.com/sulimanproject.

This is tomorrow night!
