Aberdeen Comings and Goings

Holy shit. Mind blown.

Only took everyone 15 years to get the reference which pretty much confirms that it's a terrible name. They should have named themselves Earl of Sandwich before that other place took the name or at least put a sign saying what they are in the window.

Hard Grind barber shop with a difference are currently finalizing a deal to open a shop on the Green this Summer. This opening is due to their MASSIVE success in Dundee. Not only can you get your hair cut but they also give out free shots of rum, you can play Playstation while you wait or you could have a look at their clothing range. It might also have a Jukebox but no guarantee's. The Aberdeen one won't have the coffee shop or Football table that the Dundee one has but will still have the rest. People are happy to wait over an hour to get a hair cut at their Dundee one due to all the other things on offer. This is in response to people coming to the Dundee one from Aberdeen and the owner appreciates loyalty so picked Aberdeen over Edinburgh or Glasgow. Don't worry though as Colin the owner will do shifts at the Aberdeen location while still working at the Dundee original. This will create 3 new jobs in the city.

It's gone full circle in New York with the barbers. It started out as  'hey cool you can grab a beer while you get a shave' kinda places, then went full hipster with coffee shops inside and proprietary organic beard oils and shit. Now you have either a stripped-down back to basics barber shop with zero frills or you have a barber shop inside a shop/coffee shop/bar, rather than the other way round.

Getting your hair did is extortionate across the board here.

Young hipster barbers are all over Dublin. They're expensive as balls and usually have some sort of secondary business within, whether it be organic coffee, or craft beer, there's one that's a barbers / tattooist.

They have their own beard oils and sell their own clothing range. They have sponsors such as Rockstar.

You're nobody unless you're shaving with a good old fashioned closed-comb chrome handled safety razor, a real badger-hair shaving brush and a eucalyptus and coconut oil shaving soap. Yeah those places are all over here at the moment and there's new ones springing up every week. Mostly staffed by tweed clad-bearded knobs in waistcoats.

I love getting a proper hair cut and a shave. That hot towel and massage thing is fucking bliss. Anyone who doesn't think so is equally a mug. I got a groupon thing for a fancy barber a while ago and it still cost me a fair whack but it was genuinely worth every penny. A short back and sides at Kelly's Kutz is a world away from a real barber experience IMO

You must have been well pissed off when you caught a Virgin train.

STV have won the franchise to launch a local TV station in Aberdeen in collaboration with Robert Gordon's University. STV have so far been awarded all of Scotland's local TV franchises.

This follows on from the success of STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh although it has been suggested that Aberdeen's channel will be named differently as Around Aberdeen.

Joe's Coffee House has opened in Aberdeen Airport selling tediously derivative coffee and snacks in tediously derivative rustic decor.

Joe's have moved into where The Kitchen was and The Kitchen has replaced the Costa Coffee (before security). I have flown out of Aberdeen quite frequently this year and yet I had not realised to post.

Great find.
