Villa have signed Joe Cole and Senderos. Obviously the "buy loads of unknown blokes and hope they turn out alright" strategy wasn't working for them, but they're going down the QPR route now. A pretty dangerous tactic: Cole is shot to pieces, and Senderos is... well, Senderos.

Agreed on Joe Cole, I'm guessing he'll be a bit part player at most. Senderos isn't a bad centre back though and him and Vlaar could make quite a solid defence (assuming Vlaar doesn't go).

I don't get Joe Cole.

He keeps taking transfers to these lower tier EPL clubs that don't play close to a style that he could thrive in.

The one good season he had recently was in France and by all accounts he really enjoyed it and played well.  So why not do that and actually play well and enjoy your final few years?

Unless of course it's all about the benjamins.

There will be a crazy amount of pressure on Shaw to succeed if any of the figures in that story are true. Since he is a left back, I do wonder how the mainstream media will choose to portray his success, as it's not like he'll be banging in goals all over the shop or surging through the midfield with swashbuckling runs, setting up Welbeck for goal upon goal.

It's rare United break the pay structure for players. Maybe they would have for Hazard but probably still nowhere near what Chelsea and co were offering. Maybe they'll chuck Shaw an extra 20k a week, though Zaha and Adnan might throw a wobbler. Whilst he's due to cost big money, he's still only 18.

Don't worry. United will probably be a little better with a manager who seems tactically sound and has no regard for the status of particular individuals. It'll be no giant leap though. 4th-5th is realistic. There's still going to be some lols.

And let's not forget the squad still includes Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young. That's alotta lols.
