Tips for job interviews and CV's

I just got referred for a position in Apache. Does anyone work for them?

There's a lot of speculation about their North Sea Ops at the moment, rumours flying that they might split North Sea and their American fracking ops into two separate companies. If that happens, restructuring might be a distinct possibility, in which case contractors usually get the shift on first (though many might get offered roles again), staffers usually aren't safe either.

I'm on the E-fags noo so no worries there. I've heard they can be a bit cunty to service hands - due to them being cunts an all.

Me too, but it's the principle damn it.

I think being treated like a cunt is just part of being a service hand. At least I wasn't a Production service hand though... those folks got major lumps.

I was wondering if somebody could give me advice?

Right, I've been offered a job as a full tone 'baristra' and half of it is a supervisory role at that new hotel at the kingswells park and ride. I got offered the job a couple of days ago and told her I have a 2 week notice period at my current job but she's nae happy about that.

She wants me to do this training course on the 27th and it's within the 2 week notice.

The goal was to secure that job as a back up and wait to hear what Apple are saying if I've got a job there or not as a specialist.

This would all fall into place but my managers on his holidays for 2 weeks. What would be the best way to hand in my notice?

Have you got an area supervisor or head office at your current job? If your line manager is away and you have to give two weeks then best thing to do is formally tell the next person up.

Yeah I do! That solves one thing, cheers! I've got a regional manager, I'll email him my notice once the time is right.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is it normal for companies to go quiet for this long after an interview, or not bother getting back to interviewees at all? I don't mind having nothing back after submitting a CV as they must get hundreds, but I interviewed for the role on the 27th of October and figured they'd be pretty quick getting back to candidates post-interview since the guy currently in the position is retiring at the end of this month.

I had an interview at the start of the year, went really well, everyone was nice and enthusiastic at the end and talking about getting me in to meet the company director ASAP. Never heard back from them. Agency that arranged the interview said it just went dead and they couldn't get any update either.

Think it's really bad form not to let interview candidates know if they've been successful or not but sadly it does happen.

Best bet, as Adam said, is to chase up through an HR contact or the agency that arranged the interview.

I had the opposite, got offered the job the same day as the interview, then heard nothing for two months. Chased up just to be told, "oh we've taken on lots of new people, we're really busy" despite the fact that hospitals have a six month rotation of clinical staff. Then get a call stating that it's urgent I contact them about my references, despite the fact they've sat twiddling their thumbs for two months. On top of that I had to chase them to find out what was going on with my references.

On the plus side I took the risk of handing my notice in at the end of last month (not that much of a risk as I knew the reference would be sorted and my current job is due to end at the end of December) and start my new job on the first of December.
