Johnny Mac
His lifestyle was definitely a problem. I'm defending him really because I don't think he quite deserves to be mentioned in the same league as Brian O'Neil when it comes to wasting money. Oh god no, not even close. I'm sure that was Aitken just lining Celtic's pockets, or was it Alex Miller? What a terrible manager he was. On an unrelated note I remember seeing Mike Newell lying outside Oscars in the middle of Union Street one afternoon after being thrown out for being too pished with then AFC director Ian Donald telling him to go home. Consummate professional. Noel Whelan sticking his leg through a kebab shop window when tatties and injuring himself for weeks was another highlight. Lads. Paranoid Android
The Alex Miller period was terrible, really awful. Him, McGhee and Paterson were the three managers in my time as a Dons fan I just couldn't wait to see the back of. Flo was a ridiculous signing, he was a very good player in his way but far too limited for a Scottish club to be spending that much money on him. He was never a player to win matches on his own, which is what people would expect for that much money in Scotland.

ca_gere
Crazy to think Rangers once spent 12M on a player. http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/rangers-fc/transferrekorde/verein_124.html Still, they only lost 2M when they sold him. I didn't realise they sold Arteta to Barca. Wait... I don't know if i'm reading that chart right.

ca_gere
That chart is wrong then. It says it was 11M for Flo

ca_gere
Transfer fees seemed to grow exponentially around that time too so 8 years isn't all that long. Still, for Rangers to be anywhere near paying that amount just goes to show what a shoddy shit show their financial handling was.
ca_gere
Edit: I mean 8 years is a relatively long time
amanti
Fergus Tiernan was listed as born in Nigeria in match-day programs. I always found this strange.
