Best/worst music in Aberdeen right now

Well this thread went about as well as could be expected. We're such a wonderful collection of people.

Why are you more protective about Miss Lucid than Miss Lucid?

The thread's been pretty constructive and generally been done in good humour. No-one's gotten upset except you.

Bands in Aberdeen I like

Little Kicks - their album launch for Put Your Love in Front of Me was brilliant - very creative and love the album itself.

Audiokicks - played with them a few times and love the singer's voice.

Das McManus - inventive and interesting.

Some of Oliver Richards' solo stuff is good

Deportees' set at String She Pulled was fantastic

Casino Circus - band from Ellon, seen them at a Capt Tom's showcase and was mightily impressed

Bands that are no longer together that I like

Stayover - classic pop/punk, saw them at Wake the Deen and loved it

I also quite liked Cielo Rosso.

Bands in Aberdeen that I dislike (hate is a very strong word)

Miss Lucid - nothing against them personally at all - Dan is a lovely guy and I'd know Kev to say 'hello' to and is always a decent guy - don't know the rest of them. Just not a fan of their music at all. I did enjoy a gig we played with them at Captain Tom's when the singer was pretty pissed and almost fell backwards into the drumkit. That made me smile.

Afghan Hounds - not my bag

Second Star - bit too Backstreet Boys for me. Their video is all pointing at the camera, winking and smiling. Bleugh.

Guttergodz - that may be as I'm not a 'heavier' rock fan

I stumbled on the Delawair album on my old hard drive last night and gave it a spin.  Fucking excellent.

Whatever happened to the Delawair guys? I know Scott is in Stonehaven, but what about the other chap? They were really good, and I can definitely vouch for that as I actually heard their music.

I think in terms of bands whose music I like/get the following float my boat:

Absolutist- remind me of Fall of Efrafa and Flatlands (two of my favourite UK bands) and they really understand how to make dynamics work for them.

Das McManus- love the overall feel of thief stuff, it's well thought out and there's a good vibe through all their recorded output.

Deadloss MF Superstar- Their prowess for me lies in their love show. They were always an unpredictable tight-rope between manic ramshackle visceral noise and controlled musical talent. Haven't seen them for a while but I always enjoy what I hear.

Carson Wells- I've got loads of time for Ross and Huw as musicians and both are great lads (no idea about Moose, never spoken to him but he's definitely a good drummist). They're tight as fuck and there is a clear level of songwriting ability that puts them well above most other local bands.

Bands I don't have any time for:

Miss Lucid- I hate to get on the bandwagon here but their music just doesn't grab me on any level. I'm sure they enjoy what they're doing and their music is definitely inoffensive but it's very very uninspiring and just doesn't stand out.

Akord- on paper I should like what they do but it is just a little bit tool/karnivool by numbers. They come across like competent musicians though.

Anything that E.C is involved in- this goes back to one of my previous posts about not liking bands because of one member. It's annoying because he tends to gravitate towards bands that I genuinely would like and is obviously a very competent drummer but he is such a self-important, odious little cunt that I'm inclined to ignore anything he has any involvement with (not that it'll bother him of course, I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over it). Whether that's considered petty or uncool I care not but for me it's enough to keep me out of his way.

As a Deadloss survivor (just) I can attest it was always a disorganised chaotic mess, but somehow it always sounded brilliant. Most fun I've ever had in a band, hands down.

I don't know.  I never really knew Other Chap, but think Scott was the driving force behind Delawair... been out of touch with him for about half a decade though.  It would be cool if he was still recording stuff.

He jammed with the first version of Seas, Starry for a while but the real life of young children and living far away meant he couldn't commit to being in a band.

Maybe not, I manage to get on with quite a few people who are friends with him though so you never know. I'm a really easy going person so believe me it's a stretch on my character to push me to a statement like that. I even get on well with his sister.
