Gigs Outside Aberdeen

Alkaline

Recommended Posts

It is generally acoustic singer/songwriters but they do like to mix things up a bit and have different genres.  Space and volume is an issue so no drums or 10 piece bands!  The best thing to do would be to message Kate at kelpiemusic@talktalk.net and see if they'd be interested.

Cheers min!

How further afield are you wanting? I know of a good few promoters in and around Yorkshire/Greater Manchester. Possibly Tyne and Weir area too. Mostly indie/punk/hc, incase anyone is fancying a jaunt down England way.

As far afield as you want to make it really. I think this could be a great resource for bands that are thinking of playing outside Aberdeen.

Although I don't have contact details, the below venues were where we played on our tour last week and a wee bit about them. Contact them directly as that's what we did and they were all welcoming;

The Green Room, Perth - potential to be a brilliant venue but lacked decent quality gear. DI boxes didn't work and we actually stopped playing half way through the set due to crazy feedback, the bass amp cutting out and our singer's mic failing.

Tyne Bar, Newcastle - absolutely brilliant venue, on the river Tyne. You essentially play in a beer garden, on a stage. Good PA and equipment and a nice bar.

PURE, Sunderland - new venue, in a bit of a weird place. Great equipment, good crowd and very nice Engineer

Monty's, Dunfermline - another great venue, even if the stage set up is a little weird. Busy place as well, we played on a Tuesday night to a decent crowd who just wanted to hear some live music.

Box, Glasgow - pretty sure folk know this place, good venue, extremely uninterested sound engineer and a weird vibe about the place.

The Wee Red Bar, Arts College, Edinburgh - this was our first Fringe Festival date and although it's within the Arts College and the students were on holiday, we still got a semi-decent crowd in, helped by the fact that there was so little music on during the Fringe and people wanted to see bands. The Sound Engineer was genuinely the best engineer I've worked with, spent an hour and a half soundchecking everything and made sure we were happy. Excellent.

Belushi's Bar and Hostel, Edinburgh - just off the Royal Mile, full of backpackers etc. Small stage but good set up.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, I am at the beginning stages of creating a wee Roadie/Sound engineering service called 'Band Van', thought some of you may benefit from this especially when you're gigging outside Aberdeen.

Within the next week or two will be offering full PA (4K Electro-Voice), 16 channel desk, separate mixer for drums where necessary, mics, cables, D.I. boxes and stands. This will expand in time I expect, maybe to include certain instruments and amplifiers but I won't be investing unless there is a real demand for it.

I have a large Transit van which will have rear seats soon so it will accommodate a 5 piece band and all their gear.

As these are early days I will be offering this service at mates rates to give you an intro to Band Van and how it could benefit your band.

Give me a shout and see if I can help you out!

Cheers

Colin
