The repairing of FX pedals

Anyone here a dab hand at diagnosing and fixing FX pedals? That Boss Harmonist I bought last week started out fine, but after a few goes on it, the foot switch is a bit faulty. Sometimes it just doesn't switch off, or when I step on the pedal, the light dims, the signal goes all crackly, and then just comes back on again when I step off. Those little black buttons inside boss pedals do seem awful flimsy. I've had problems with a few in the past. The effect works fine it seems, but it's just always on. I quite like the idea of ALWAYS harmonising, but I'd like to have least have the option to switch it off, on some occasions.

Anyone here know of anyone who is good at fixing noise boxes? I emailed Roland to see if they'll do it, but they don't deal with out of warranty models. Bogus!

Sorry fella - I never saw that. If it's definitely the footswitch that's the issue they might still be able to do it?

Yeah I've sent them an email stating it's a footswitch issue rather than an issue with the effect itself, so I'll see what they say.

My other worry is that the screws on the underside look a little warped. I hope that once I find someone to fix the thing, that they can actually get in to it!

I couldn't find anywhere in Aberdeen to fix my 70's Memory Man, so I went to Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow to get it fixed. They mailed it back and it works as good as new. http://www.strungoutguitars.com/

Cheers for the recommendation, Jan. Sent it off to them just a few days ago, they've got it all patched up already, and it's on my way back to me. Dealt with them by phone and email. They are proper swell gents, and not at all like Barry in High Fidelity, which is what I imagine all record shop and guitar shop clerks to be like.

They said it was a faulty insulator sheet, so the PCB was shorting. I don't know what that means. But they fixed it, so I can have it back and play some Allman Brothers, on my own. Top gear!

Sounds like the bit of plastic that sometimes gets put between the PCB and the enclosure to, er, stop it shorting out on the case.  Can only assume the PCB had managed to poke holes in it over time.

I'm also looking for pedal repairs in the Aberdeen area.

I recently sold a GT500 pedal to an Aberdeen based fellow (thomasw88 of this very forum) and it the distortion footswitch seems to have gone on the blink (can only assume it got a knock in transit). I need to get it repaired for him and it would be far more convenient if there was someone local I could use rather than having him ship it back to me, get it fixed and then ship it out again.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

I am probably going to send my Digitech JamMan in to Strung Out, as it's about fucking time I got it fixed and made noise again. However, before I do, if anyone happens to know of any Digitech specialists in Scotland, I would appreciate the tip off.

What was the problem with your Memory Man, and what sort of price did you pay for the repair?
