 Shop around for half decent second hand separates. Make sure the amp has a phono connection. Most amps I'd imagine would have at least 3 line inputs for CD, tape and MP3 players. These are a decent starting point - after 2 minutes browsing....

Cambridge make pretty decent budget gear....

 

Speakers you can probably get locally quite easily but maybe read up on matching them to the amp to get the most bang for buck - if you don't know about this kind o' shit already.
